i agree. if luxury suvs were manual i bet i wouldn't see sorority girls speeding and weaving in and out of traffic all the time.
Manual 99% of the time. Purchased automatic on my last automobile because the auto transmission is quicker than the 6 speed and there was no price difference.
I know autos are quicker than manual these days but I still can't bring myself to give up my manual transmission in a car with power (when I have the option).
All of this will be irrelevant once computer-driven cars hit the road. Get off the road bozos! Eliminate human error, eliminate car accidents.
I live in SF - manual is pretty much non-existent here. It's bad enough driving in the city, but made infinitely worse burning up the clutch going up Russian Hill, Pac Heights, and Nob Hill.
Disagree, you're just an a**hole Seriously though, manual does/would limit texting, Internet, etc while driving.
Because machines never make errors..... let alone the overwhelming computer assistance in cars today that are always malfunctioning..
Next thing we'll have is an argument between the RWD vs. FWD people. But none of that crap matters cuz ... Spoiler YOU NEED TO CRANK TO GET CRUNK!
my dad gave me his 93 Toyota pickup with no parking brake that I use as a daily driver. My drive to work is away from traffic so it is not too bad.
As I mentioned in another thread, I drive a 2015 EVO.. That means someone actually bought a new car in this day and age and opted for a manual vs auto. I love auto, its easy and convenient. Auto is comfortable and that plays a big role when you are out on a date or have friends in the car that are not used to a slight jerky ride sometimes. With that said the reason I chose a manual is because I want to actually drive the car, not steer it. You can only have complete control of a car when its manual. Getting in and out of lanes in Houston traffic is not easy because the majority of drivers do like to lose their place. If they see your blinkers they speed up and will not let you in. I enjoy having a transmission I can easily drop into third for instant power and rpm manipulation vs an auto where I am just hoping it does what I need it to do. Anyways I'm late for work so pretty much Manual is more precise and for those who want to be in full control. Also to those saying "I opted for an auto version because it was slightly faster and has better numbers" stfu.... There is nothing better than buying a performance car with a manual and learning it to the point no faggity a$$ driving an auto can beat you.
+1 for the people right on your ass on an incline. Not so much in Houston, but it happened all the time in Austin. Hill assist FTW The pedals in my car are close enough that I can just have part of my foot on the brake and I can blip the throttle by rolling my foot over at the same time. It's probably not as safe as doing a heel-toe because depending on the shoes I'm wearing I feel like my foot can slip off the brake. I love and hate manual cars. Driving to and from downtown everyday for work is a pain in the ass.
yeah tiptronic. it's just not that fun for me ive used it 5 times maybe in 2 years. i guess i should more often though
I had a MT Acura TL since my college days that I finally go rid of (to younger brother) last year. It's too big of a pain to have a MT as your every day car in Houston.
All but two of my cars have been manuals and I hated one of the automatics. The other was a 1968 Mustang and I loved it regardless. I get bored driving the wife's automatic. Rev matching, heel-toe shifting, and the overall increased sense of engagement and control make it worth it to me.
