Interesting, It sounds like you may have played Basketball in district 16-4A during the late 70's. I doubt many people on this board know who the Bunce brothers were. One was pretty good, the other was just OK, both were tall. I guess they were famous in Conroe. In high school, Rudy Woods looked like he would be a future NBA star, he never lived up to his potential. 16-4A was really a tough district back then. Cy-Fair had some great teams, and made it to the state tourney one year. I ran into one of the Bunce brothers about twenty years ago. He was a very nice guy.
I played 'street' football with Joseph Addai's brother, Jeoffrey, in elementary That guy was fast, and I was the only one that could tackle him
John Lucas lll and a few other Baylor basketball/football players. Sophia Young and a few other girls from the championship team. Man, those chicks hack like there's no tomorrow.
Some players I got to play with or against during college. NBA Aaron Brooks- Used to play at the rec allllllllllllll the time. Never thought he'd make it to the NBA let alone play for my favorite team and become a budding star. Luke Ridnour- looked like a normal Eugene hippie college kid. Especially when he had long hair. Luke Jackson- played every once in a while. Fred Jones- ran a game or two every once in a while as well. NFL Haloti Ngata- 6'4 350+ and he could dunk. Super quiet but nice once you get to know him. Keith Lewis- freak athlete Demetrius Williams- probably the best bball player that plays football.
I've only played against 3 NBA players. Hakeem ( Masjid Sabereen on Dulles and Ludwig) (he came to do a speech after Friday Halaqa a couple of years ago and afterwards he played some ball.) I'll never forget that day. I asked him if he wanted anything to eat and he made me fetch him some Macoroni from the Masjid Kitchen. Big Baby Davis (UH Rec Center) Cat Mobley (Royal Oaks Country Club off of Westheimer)
Closest thing to a NBA pro I've played against was Woody Polynice, Olden Polynice's brother. Played with and against many pro's in soccer. Too many to list. Played street football with Grant Irons (former Notre Dame and Oakland Raider)
Acie Law IV. Somehow I was guarding him too at the beginning. If you saw me, this would be funny yo you. This quickly switched. The other guy couldn't stop him either.
Corey Williams, defensive tackle for Lions, was on my intramural squad. I hooped with Arthur Agee, star of Hoop Dreams . I think that's it.
I've played with plenty of people here on the BBS that they've placed me on ignore... some just ignore me... some even report me... Seriously speaking, though, I played at Moody Park with greats like Moses Malone, Robert Horry, etc., way back, but... I didn't even know it was them until someone told me... I just knew they were really tall black dudes I was picking up to play with me. They liked my hustle and rebounding skills.
The Bunce Brothers lived in my hometown (Huntsville) before moving to Conroe... Danny and I were in the same grade and we were pretty good friends through Elementary school. Price moved to town for a short span when his dad was coach at Sam. Played a short pickup game with LaSalle one summer in Austin. Woods played for Bryan and I played him in Little Dribblers, which was kind of a bball little league back then. I didn't play school ball after my freshman year because there was just too much talent hanging around. Huntsville won state two years in a row, and we routinely beat Woods' team because we had a guy named Royce Craft (eventually played QB for Rice) who was strong and could jump out of the gym. Also on that team were Terry Hoage who played football at Georgia and had a long NFL career, Lloyd Archie, who was a Parade All-American in football, Curtis Wallace, who played bball at Tulane, and several others who played small college or JuCo bball. If the Bunce Brothers had stayed, I'm pretty sure we could have won 3 or 4 times in a row.
i've played with a couple of people who have played professional/semi professional soccer when i was in high school my club team played against a team from klein that won the national championship twice i have also played against this guy http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Imad_Baba
Jeff Garcia Donald Driver (6 ft tall now. But could dunk, in 7TH GRADE) In the LA area gyms, always some C-D list actors or D1-D2 college players on the court that you've barely or never heard of.
