I didn't get into basketball until my early teens. Before I knew anything about basketball other than getting the ball in the hoop, I only knew 2 names: Jordon and Bird.... that was 15 years ago.

Find someone who does not know ANYTHING about basketball and ask them to give you two names. Don't be surprised if its ... Jordon or Bird.

My mum and my friend don't watch basketball at all. Both of them only know the names of 2 basketball players -- Michael Jordan and Yao Ming. They can't give you more.

Not necessarily. Jordan was a shoot-first player, who made his teammates better.

Making others better doesn't necessarily mean you pass the ball a lot. MJ was the consumate leader, who didn't take crap from any of his teammates. MJ commanded enough respect to get losers like Luc Longley, Jud Buechler, BJ Armstrong, etc to play above themselves and win.

LeBron can shoot the ball 30 times a game (and he will come close to that) and make others better.

Say what you want, but i don't think either will pass jordan. These guys are young andalready talk about not playing in the Olympics and stuff. When Jordan was 24 he was avg like 35 a game and was dominant already. Just because you start younger doesn't mean you'll play any longer. Punishment on your body is punishment no matter how old you are. T-Mack already has back problems at the age of 23. Just like we'll never see a player like Hakeem, I don't think we'll ever see a guy like Jordan.

I say Steve Francis because he has a chance to win more championships than Kobe or McGrady. I think it's highly possible that the Ming\Francis combo could produce three titles together.

But, do titles alone define a player's greatness?

If they do in such a manner, then Steve Kerr is better than Stockton or Malone (Jazz biases aside).

It may be one part, but it's not the entire story.
