Nash. Phoenix is the best team in the
    let me say it...
    WEST

Plus who would you want to take shots in the clutch?

Plus Kidd is no fun to watch, producing the lowest rated nba finals. getting beat down by the Lakers and Spurs.

When Kidd came, Martin and Kittles returned from injuries and Jefferson and Jason Collins were drafted. Phoenix got Q. Richardson. Advantage Nash.

But really, the only thing that matters is that both are exponentially better than Stephon Marbury.

Are you comparing todays players? Because if you are I would take Nash too but if we're talking about accomplishments, Nash is yet to prove anything. What if JKidd had shooters like Dirk and Finley? That Suns team is loaded and suited for Nash too.

Remember that Nash was Kidd's backup once...damn, what a lucky team, with two point guards like that.

I still remember when Nash lit the Rockets up for 35 pts in a preseason game in his first season as Kidd's backup.

It has to be Kidd unless Nash can take the Suns to the finals

Getting to the finals means squat...nothing...nada.....

Both getting to the finals and getting to the WC finals are equivalant.

    Winning it all means more.

Yes, I am comparing Nash now, and for the last 5 years he has been better than Kidd.

Nash can run the point as well as J Kidd and can score too.

I will take Nash every day of the week and twice on Sundays.

If you had any conception of the history of the Nets until that point, and thereafter, you'd realize how wrong you were. Although that might be giving too much credit.

    Sam,

And how prestigious was that Mavs franchise before Nash got there?

Yes, Kidd is a good player......I just think Nash has done more.

A hell of a lot more prestigious than the Nets. New Jersey had been the running joke of the league along with the Clippers until Kidd came around (and yes, that coincided with RJ/KM/KK).

Still, there's no way Kenyon & Jefferson are a better supporting cast than Dirk & Fin. No way in the world. In fact, I would take Nash's current teammates over Kidd's NJ ones.

Nash is probably right there with Kidd on offense. Lacks a little on the passing side, but makes up for it with his scoring. It's not even close past that. Kidd's a triple double threat, Nash is a revolving door.

Nash did not turn the Mavs around. Finely, Dirk and Nash turned that franchise around. Plus it took several years after the Nash trade. People were ready to run Nash out of town because he was such a non-factor his first couple of seasons in Dallas.

    DD -

Nash is certainly having a better season, but it feels almost as if you think Nash is the better player in general.

Nash has one thing over Kidd over their entire careers...one thing, and that is shooting. He is a consistently better shooter.

That said, Kidd still ends up scoring more. Kidd has out-assisted Nash for his career by 3 a game. This is Nash's first year (9 seasons) at over 9 assists per game. In Kidds 13 year career, he has only not accomplished that 3 times. Kidd is consistently the better defender.

And, on top of all that, Kidd took one of the league's worst teams for decades to the NBA Finals. Did the Nets also make other smart moves that year? Yes, but you can't argue that the Mavs or the Suns had poor talent either. And, I agree, getting to the Finals is nothing, winning it is what counts, but since Nash has yet to do either, you have to give Kidd the nod, for now.

    No.

Nash's first two (7 ppg, 5 apg) seasons in Dallas, in which they won 19 and 40 games, had little to no effect that I can discern on the Dallas Mavericks franchise.

By contrast, Kidd's arrival into NJ turned a team - a team that hasn't been a serious title contender since Michael Ray Richardson left in the early 80's and was bascally the LA CLippers of the East, an absolute joke of a franchise - into overnight title contenders. Granted he had some help but he did this more than anyone due to his MVP-caliber season.

Not only did the Nets become title contenders, but their run under him undoubtedly influenced their eventual sale from YankeeNets to Bruce Ratner, to the effect of 300m or something. This in turn preciptated their eventual move to Brooklyn, including the construction of new arena in a whole area of downtown brooklyn (Kidd was involved in this two getting Kidd's approval to play across the Hudson was a big deal)

In basketball terms - his contributions were more significant. In financial terms, - his contributions were way more significant. This issue is beyond any reasonable form of dispute.

I know this sounds hypocritical since I've been the main one joining in, but between this and the other thread, there is starting to be an uncomfortable amount of Steve Nash discussion on this board.

Lets get another Jazz hate thread going or something.
