Robert Upshaw anyone? I say let Smith go to Rio and condition while Upshaw, who is in better shape but not as skilled plays takes the 15th spot, mainly for practice purposes. Once Smith has lost about 50 lbs trade Upshaw, unless he's killing it of course
Carlos Boozer. He atleast depth, and if he around a winning team he probably could be more value in situations where rebounds are needed, and maybe Jones/Dmo/Howard/Caplea/ any one of these 2 players could be in foul trouble early, Boozer wouldn't be too bad of a option.
Anytime you propose to sign someone, you should ask yourself two questions: 1) Will this guy make the rotation regardless of injuries? 2) If it's a PF, are you comfortable with him switching onto Klay Thompson or Steph Curry on the perimeter? If the answer is "no" to both of these, then I'd suggest moving on.
Some more than others. I think Boozer would be a disaster on the perimeter. Guys like Capela and Josh Smith are rare but necessary in todays game. One of my personal favorites is Marvin Williams (but only if he's bought out).
I think we've got enough perimeter defenders that we can afford a defensive negative like Boozer. All he'd be, hopefully, is a guy who can come in and knock down a few shots, grab some rebounds, and call it a day. Don't know if I'd prefer him to keeping the spot open and waiting for later but he's one of the best guys without a team.
We have enough perimeter guards and small forwards....but not big forwards that can shoot the ball. IMO, our biggest weaknesses is that we only have 2 forwards that can shoot......Ariza and DMo. We need another guy that can shoot and not be a liability on defense. Center is not an issue. Dwight, Capela, and DMo can all play the 5 reasonably well, with TJones getting some spot minutes as well.
Ersan Ilyasova He can shoot, shouldnt be that expensive. But he just got traded to pistons so dont know if he can be traded now. Seems like rockets fans have been trying to get him for ages, almost like a ryan anderson type.
