?? No, not at all. But I think you know: conservatives will take any negative news about Snopes or similar and use that to further insulate their followers from relatively unbiased info (eg like all the fact-checking of Trump’s record-setting torrent of lies and distortions.)

And you think that only conservatives do that?

I would argue that people from the left do it just the same.

Did you see the word "generally" in my post? Consider the meaning of that word, and if it fits your use of "only".

Well of course you would - that's not particularly surprising. And yet, conservatives are almost always the ones complaining about fact-checkers.

All humans do it to an extent of course, but no, objectively, I do not think it's "just the same," at all.
That's how you get January 6 and people refusing to take available vaccines, to be honest. That's how you get people who's last words as they die from COVID amount to claiming COVID is not real.

I don't think you've spent a lot of time in America recently -- I could be wrong -- but it is really ****ing scary to watch some people unwittingly abandon some basic tenets of the Enlightenment. Some people are running, hands over ears and eyes closed, toward a new Dark Age. And you have a few key media barons, like Tucker Carlson, prodding them, laughing, and cashing their checks.

It's like the information age found a bug in a lot of human brains, and a few people in America are ready to make money off of that bug.

For the record, sure, CNN has a similar business model to FOX: enrage and audience, present biased content, addict the audience, gain clicks and views, and repeat. But the extent of key figures' willingness to disengage from reality (elections, basic science, presenting opinion and even obvious lies as truthful fact) does distinguish them now, in my humble view.

That Snopes is owning up to it and conducting their own investigation gives me more confidence in them.

Yeah. It doesn't really harm the credibility of Snopes and their handling is a sharp contrast to some of the conservative news services.

This happened six years ago. Bit washed over long after the fact much like how any media company would do it.

It's troubling no one got punished for it, but I don't think they'll be impacted unless future scandals do the same thing.

Their audience trusts them with their content, takes some serial behavior to break that trust.

I sincerely wish that a lot of the flagrant liars we know in today's world were simply plagiarists. That would be a lot less harmful.
