Just a note about that. I spoke to someone the other day who told me that Griffin has really impressed the Rockets with his defense. They knew he could block shots but his timing is apparently unreal and his energy around the glass is very high. There is the belief that it might take him half a season or even a full one to find his groove offensively and that he will need to get easy baskets in transition in order to warm him up but his defense is already up to snuff. His only real problem will be bulk which is why he'll probably cover 3's more often than 4's for a while until he gets some meat on his bones. ------------------ Who's your buddy? Who's your pal? I agree Clutch. I mentioned in some other thread, I don't remember which, that if Cleveland was part of the deal that Doleac and Gatling would be intriguing. ------------------ "Instruments are like women: After a while, you want to make love to another." - Nicolas Godin of the musical duo Air
It's not all about matching up against the centers. It's also about stopping the penetration. ------------------
You know, if Marc Jackson lost 10lbs of baby fat, and put on 10lbs of muscle, then.... Jackson Taylor Griffin Mobley Francis Then those 5 spots would be sealed for years and years....I wouldn't be surprised if Jackson was waiting for us.....Young Centers should be drooling over the prospect of playing for us...and they really shud be.... When we sign Mo, that will be 4 spots locked up for 4 years at least....If Cato develops when Hakeem's gone, or Hakeem stays, I think expectations SHUD be high... Without Griffin, we had a very stron playoff run last year....If you count the second half of the season, I thkn our record could've qualified as top 5 or 6? Now we'd have the same team plus Griffin and T-MO. VERY bright future for the Rockets...... ------------------
Clutch I knew you were speculating. I just wanted to express my dislike for him. Crapee: Repeat after me. Scar-face. I didn't lose the bet your team did, so you can't change my name. ------------------ "We need to FOCASS".... Akeem Olajuwon
Speaking of lineups, am I the only one who loves when Rudy puts Mo and KT at the 4 and 5? ------------------ Ceo of the Walt Williams and Lisa Malosky fan club. atheistalliance.org [This message has been edited by DEANBCURTIS (edited July 23, 2001).]
So the coaching staff does know what defense looks like......WOW, maybe they can get the rest of the team to play some too! ------------------ "The things I enjoy most, I suck at: 1) Sex: everything's fine until she makes noises." - Achebe [This message has been edited by SmeggySmeg (edited July 23, 2001).]
Yeah, I understood that it is a situational idea. But a rotational line-up is a completely different story (ie one that occurs nearly every game for a stretch). the 3 guard line-up will definitely be used as a rotational line-up. That's been obvious for 2 years. I mean, we feature that lineup! That is not the same as your line-up. The key to the 3 guard lineup is to take advantage of Steve's ability to play SG and Mobley's ability to seriously hurt small forwards. The difference is that the 3 guard line-up forces the opponents to put 3 guards on the court. The 3 guard lineup with Mo/K9 or Mo' and a 3pt shooter like Walt is dangerous. The 3 guard lineup with a defensive stopper/shotblocker is even more killer, absolutely. That lineup is Rudy's goal imo, and will not only be played rotationally, but be *featured*, either with Dream or Griffin (assuming he has NBA-ready defense).
People at like the West is loaded with dominant centers, the only teams with quality centers the Rockets would face is San Antonio and Los Angeles Lakers! ------------------ "Instruments are like women: After a while, you want to make love to another." - Nicolas Godin of the musical duo Air
Ummmm. No! Don't take this personal but that lineup would get killed. Griffin would get manhandeled at the 4 and MoTay at the 5 to me is worse than when we had Kenny playing the 5. P.S. Please tell me the Doleac talk is a wicked joke played on us by Clutch. ------------------ "We need to FOCASS".... Akeem Olajuwon
Scareface, we had great success last year with centerless, 3-guard line-ups in the 4th quarter. So did Dallas!
I would love to see those five on the floor at the same time and I think we will. The speed of that line up would cause some serious problems for teams in the transition game IMO. ------------------
