I'd love to see the Astros go after Mike Stanton. We could definitely use another ace in the bullpen. Kenny Rogers would be a good replacement for Mlicki. Also, if only Jose Hernandez could cut down on his strikeouts. He'd worth a look, too. Edgardo Alfonzo would also be a nice pickup for the Stros...
I think some of those guys will be over priced. I like Stanton and Rogers both but think they may get bigger offers from some other clubs. Hernandez would be a decent pick up I saw something on his strikeouts the other day and he hit better than most other players at his position and had a better OBP than a lot even with the K's.
With the top of the rotation being Oswalt, Miller, and Reynolds, now is the time to make a bold move. Try and trade for Colon or Vasquez from the Expos, solidify the pitching, the Expos want $$$ or minor leaguers. Go for the brass ring and try to get Vlad Guerrero, could you imagine Vlad and Berkman in the outfield and there offensive production. Now's the time to make the bold move. But like always as Astros fans we'll sit on the sidelines and watch everyone else get better. Please prove me wrong Drayton, it would be great to have three great teams in this town.
Ramiro Mendoza, Yankees This guy can help our pen or start, as long as the price is right sign him. Also DJ seems to mean playoffs for any team so him too And hernandez would be nice.
I don't know who would be a buyer...i had a lengthy conversation with Refman over the phone about this...for all the talk of what a bad investment these teams are, they always get sold. Minnesota sold...Kansas City sold...and those are two franchises in a lot more hot water than the Astros are. But I have no idea who the buyer would be...of course, I didn't know Drayton would be a buyer back in the early-90's.
And the Royals were purchased from the estate of a man who had been dead for seven years. I'm thinking, sooner or later, the Royals were going to be sold after Ewing Kauffman's death regardless of the financial state of baseball. The surprise is that it took so long.
wow...bad examples! nevertheless...while i agree the universe of buyers is small...i don't think mclane is absolutely stuck with the astros if he wants out.
Maybe we should take a collection. I'm sure we could all raise enough dough to make an offer. Maybe then kidrock would stop complaining about ownership. We could even make him GM if we wanted to have a class action bankruptcy case.
