I follow college ball closer than NBA ball. I've seen Williams a great deal, and I think he has great skills at the point. He already runs the fast break better than many NBA pgs. I don't get the rap on him that he's not a true 1. Just because he can score, doesn't mean he doesn't have good passing skills. Incidentally, I'd bring Mobley off the bench. I think he's better as instant offense than as a starter. The unit that I suggested would already have enough scoring. Mobley loooooves to shoot. If he played as a sub, he could not only shoot to his heart's content, but he could also use his quickness against tired players or subs.
i should be but im not. two reasons: 1) i dont want to be the WORST team in the nba. thats embarassing 2) the worst team in the nba has NEVER gotten the #1 pick.
Personally, I wouldn't even consider this deal, because I don't care to have Payton on this team. However, if it were a legitimate offer, we'd have to give up $28.6 million in salaries to make it work. If they were unwilling to take Cato/Rice/Walt in the deal, then we would have to gut the team of our young talent. Here's an example of what we'd have to give up, if they were willing to accept Rice/Cato in the deal. Houston trades: Kelvin Cato $6,048,000 to Seattle Houston trades: Eddie Griffin $2,011,080 to Seattle Houston trades: Cuttino Mobley $4,413,375 to Seattle Houston trades: Glen Rice $8,800,000 to Seattle Houston trades: Maurice Taylor $6,500,000 to Seattle TOTAL: $27,772,455 Seattle trades: Vin Baker $11,250,000 to Houston Seattle trades: Rashard Lewis $4,413,375 to Houston Seattle trades: Gary Payton $12,926,493 to Houston (plus Trade Kicker $1,950,456) TOTAL: $28,589,868 The bottom line is that it would be a bad deal for us.
-I think Steve needs some more migranes (the fake kind of course) -I think Cuttino should sit because of sprained ankles -Moochie needs a break to get his hair permed. -KT ( I love the guy, but he is our only tradeable commodity)and Walt should be traded for someone with a bigger expiring contract. -Cato needs to revert back to his old form (unless we are close to trading him) Starting lineup for the rest of this season: Tierre Brown Oscar Torres Terrence Morris Eddie Griffin Jason Collier Yeah baby.....can you say TANK? We get a high ass pick, do a three way trade that lands us Rashard and Brad Miller. Next years lineup: Steve Cuttino Rashard Griffin Brad Miller Bench: Moochie Oscar Rice Maurice Cato Yeaah baby...Can you say PLAYOFFS?
But those teams didn't just bounce back. This is Antoine Walker's sixth year. Before last year, the Mavs weren't any good for years. A lottery pick will do absolutely nothing for this team, unless he's Tim Duncan or Shaq. It's the championships that are keeping people from realizing that the Rockets are now in the same boat as most everyone else in the NBA for years to come. This is usually what rebuilding is like -- not pretty.
I'll agree...sort of. This team is very talented and can do good things next season, if we are healthy. We don't need a lottery pick to be good. If we could pick up a legit center, then this team could contend in 2 years. If we get another superstar potential player beyond the center position, I could see that creating chemistry problems. P.S. Cato could turn into a legit center. (I did not say WOULD) Cato could be a major key to future success on this team if he could just sustain his recent play and maybe elevate it just a little bit more. I'm hopeful but not certain.
I kind of think that Boston and Dallas bounced back. I mean, yeah they sucked for years before hand, but they started winning games with nearly identical rosters that sucked in previous seasons. The difference? Players stepping up their game. For Dallas, Nash and the emergence of Nowitzki. Boston - Paul Pierce, and a little bit more from Walker. Oh, and they were healthy most of the year too I think that if the Rocks are healthy, that there are people on this roster who can elevate this team next year. Griffin, Mo Taylor, and maybe even Rice. Maybe Francis can take his game to yet another level as well. I do agree with you on one point though - a lotto pick wont elevate this team to playing good bball unless it's a Shaq or Duncan. And who knows, if we get a high enough pick, maybe we can land someone like that. At the very least ... we will get more depth for next year.
CK -- after reading your last post, I must say, why are you excited about the lottery again? Sounds like you agree with me that next year depends almost entirely on factors not having to do with the coming draft.
for a few reasons 1. Ming. No, I haven't really seen him play, but there is so much hype around him that he might be a legit stud center, and how often do those go in the draft? Course he could be a bust, but if he was even just as good as Vlade, I would gladly welcome him on the Rocks. Big men rule the NBA. 2. Just the excitement of having a high pick. Yeah, maybe it sounds silly, but getting a highly touted player(which you usually get with the higher picks) or speculating what we might do with it is fun. 3. I'm spoiled with our high picks turning out to be great players. Griff and Francis(yeah, yeah, thru trade, but they are still high picks). I'm hoping if we get a high pick that we could turn it into another impact player that could affect our "contender" status in the future. 4. **** happens. this season is just really aggravating proof of that. Maybe MoTay, and Rice wont come back strong as Rocket fans hope for. I don't even want to speculate what other bad things could happen. But a lotto pick would just be yet another glimmer of hope that the franchise could turn itself around. I do think the best chance of us turning it around lays in the hands of our current best players, Griff, and Steve ... but the more potential impact players on the team, the better, imo.
