Well if some of ya'll think that pro athletes deserve to make 10-20 million dollars a year, well then thats your opinion. I happen to think thats a pretty excessive sum. And I fully undertsand it's the nature of our capitalistic society that allows these stars to receive such huge paychecks. That doesn't mean I have to agree with it, cause I don't. And I certainly don't agree with some of these guys who start to whine like little babies because their million dollar salaries just isn't enough. You know what, just shut up and play because you should be grateful for what you're making in the first place. And yeah there a number of mediocre teachers and (insert any other job) that just go through the motions to get a paycheck. But there are plenty of athletes that do that do... see Kelvin Cato, Carlos Beltran, etc. But there are plenty of teachers and (insert job) that work hard at what they do but don't get nearly the credit nor the compensation for it.

What A. Davis is doing, I don't have a real problem with though. I don't think he should be bought out, I think if he doesn't want to get played, then let 'em walk, but he shouldn't see any money.

But I'm not going to argue this anymore cause it seems pointless and this is the Dish.

Or because it's a moronic argument.

Bottom line: The NBA generates gazillions in revenue. The money has to go in someone's pockets. I don't mind half of it ending up in the pockets of the players who actually entertain us, and I don't believe that personal freedoms should be limited and people should "just shut up and do their jobs" based solely on the amount of money that they're making.

Millionaires have just as much right to define the terms of their employment as sanitation workers.

    ONE MORE QUESTION:

    Who *DESERVES* 20 million?

    Amen!!

Hey you, you make this much so shut up and enjoy it. Never mind that I expect you to not see your family a lot, or to take all kinda shots and medicine to numb pain so you can perform for me. Just make your paper and do what mr. bossman says.

I completely agree that athletes are overpaid compared to us "regular folks", but I really can't complain considering how much they help generate. Either way, they have a right to complian about work just like anyone else, especially if they are willing to leave money (MILLIONS) on the table.

That's a little extreme and was far from the point I was trying to make. I wasn't talking about personal freedoms at all. And (to Icehouse) I also never said athletes don't have a right to complain. It just falls on deaf ears to me when guys making 15 million dollars want a couple million more (TO, Latrell, etc) ...which is why some of these player actions tick me off. But I'll seriously stop there.

Whew...pretty deep, and opens up a whole new can of worms.

Here is a counter question. Who either the owner or the players even be able to make 20 million if the NBA wasn't subsidized by the public?

Afterall, the arenas these teams play in are paid for with taxpayers' money. The "rent" the teams pay back to the city doesn't cover the cost of construction or maintenance. Otherwise, we wouldn't even have the issue of owners (Rockets included) whining about needing new and better arenas and asking the city to foot the bill with bond referendums.

The cities make alot of money off these arenas via tourism etc
Why do you think cities are clamouring to bend over for them

you think city officials are just stupid?
