Interesting. My first choice would have been Catherine Keener but we'll see.

The joker is by far the best villain possible. I find the riddler/freeze way too corny.

Penguin would be interesting, but only in a "crime boss" kind of way.

Bummer ledger died... I still think they should get another actor to do the joker again anyway - he just makes batman movies so much better.

That is the biggest load of bull***** ever. Who is making this crap up? Who are the reporters that fall for this stuff? Christopher Nolan hasn't even signed on to a third movie yet. I love how they are stating that Depp is the Riddler all matter of factly when there is no truth to that either.

Until Nolan is signed on, any rumors about casting should be dismissed. There isn't a script for a third one, not even a treatment.

How about John Leguizamo as the Riddler or Forrest Whitaker as the Penguin? Almost all Batman villains have been White. I'd like to see a little change to that.

Ras Al Guhl was Liam Neeson for all of Batman Begins. The asian "Ras" at the temple in the beginning was a decoy.

John Leguizamo is a pretty sorry actor. No thanks. Marvel has gotten on board with re-casting characters to be more diverse (Kingpin in Daredevil, Sam Jax as Fury*, etc). I'm all for it as long as the person brought in can command the role.

Honestly, I'd like to see a non-comic-book villain. A sort-of Jack-the-ripper type who is rich and powerful, but also a closet psycho who is both a master of organized crime, but also a crazy killer in himself. Rich, but still greedy. Strong and smart. Really, a character that is like Batman himself, only evil.

I have a bad feeling that having Riddler and Catwoman is gonna suck (and I hate Cher).

Well in Theory the Scarecrow would be corny, and so would the Joker. But Nolan kind of molds the villain to where they make sense in the real world you know? I'm sure he could make the Riddler not corny.

Depp is a much more serious actor than Jim Carrey. You're imaging Jim Carrey in The Dark Knight, and that would never work of course. When I think of Depp as the Riddler, I think of the ending of The Secret Window, where he is kind of deranged you know?

While we're at it, why can't we just have Batman be black? I mean he is the dark night, right? He can have Lucious make slits for his cornrows to hang out. And, of course, he would need to alter the bottom of the suit for the needed "extra room". :p

I think the entire world knows who Lex Luthor is. My point is that I'd rather not see a comic-bookish villain.

These are good points. I guess what I was trying to say was that no villain better counters batman than the joker. He is everything batman is not. Moreover, only the joker really provides the right backdrop for batman to question himself and his role.
