i think Ed Norton would be a good candidate for the next villian too. although i think he does more serious roles. (excluding hulk) DDL would be great... thought he pretty much retired or partial retirement. he doesnt do many movies at all. i dont know much about the batman 'world' or w/e but read some of the villians and stuff on wiki. i think black mask or mad hatter would be cool. however i think hollywood will go with riddler because they dont want to go away from the super villians in fear of alienating the masses.
Frank Miller ( the creator of the dark knight series) said that his next book would be called Holy terror batman ; supposedly Batman fights to save Gotham from Al Quaeda attacks. For those who want a down to earth approach here you go . By the way The Dark Knight movie was based on Millers Batman the Killing Joke. Heath Ledger was actually given a copy of this book as a reference to his depiction of the Joker. If you want to know more look up Frank Miller comics in wikipedia.
As has been suggested in this thread, I think Bane would be badass and would definitely reinforce the detective plot they're going for. with something like, After getting the living sh-t beaten out of him everytime they are on screen together, batman finally outdoes him with his wits. refresh my memory...did bane ever talk at all? nolan already said the penguin wasnt plausible so no use discussing that. i would love to see depp as the riddler. im probably in the minority here, but i hope two face is gone for good. i really did not like this two-face. he wasnt nearly as menacing as one would imagine that character to be. two-face, catwoman, the riddler etc. have been done to death. i really think nolan and co. can put their stamp on this thing if they get some fresh blood. something like 'the ventriloquest' would be incredible if done properly.
wow good to know that a fellow clutchfan was also at the prescreening. did they do any surveys or anything like that. i exited through the top so i figured on the way out the front they handed out surveys.
i think they should bring back jim carrey to do the riddler. he's proven now that he can do serious roles very well, and i think under a notable director and script he'd be great.
well if Mama Mia! is a success I could see the franchise going a different direction with the villain... BATMAN: the Musical!!
Luckily, there's next to no chance of that. No way Nolan would risk polluting his rendition by conjuring up memories of the travesty that was Carrey's Riddler, whether it was Jim's fault or not. Nothing that had anything to do with that series should be touched with a 10 foot pole. I'm really hoping Nolan goes a bit out of the box and introduces a new villain, rather than regurgitating one of the old tired acts that's been done to death. There's so many intriguing options out there, but my guess is he'll stick with the standard Riddler/Catwoman just for the fans that aren't too familiar with Batman. My dream cast would be The Ventriloquest and Bane as the villains.
Even though I doubt Nolan would do it just because of the CGI-heavy work that would be needed to make it real, Clayface would be my choice. Reasons: 1. Never been done in a Batman Movie before 2. A dark character befitting Nolan's style 3. A character with serious psychological flaws 4. Turn this movie into MORE of a psychological battle (he can change his appearance into anyone) Anyone remember that Batman: The Animated Series episode that introduced Clayface? Now THAT was great storytelling.
My Dad said when people went to the original Star Wars in 1977 they clapped and cheered the whole movie. He said it was like he was IN a movie with the reaction, the stereotypical popcorn flying, people oohing and awing. He said he's never had a theater experience like it again and wishes more movies had that kind of fun and charm.
I would really like to see Black Mask, and I think he would make a good addition to this interpretation of Batman. However, having just watched the Psychology of Batman or whatever special that was on the History channel, (which was obviously put together by Nolan's people to promote the movie) I think the writing is on the wall that it's going to be the Riddler and Catwoman, who were the only villains they focused on who haven't appeared yet.
I think that the Clayface would be an AWESOME villian, but I think Nolan, like people have said and Nolan mentioned that he wouldn't really want to do villains that aren't really realistic...I think Clayface would be a great dark villian.
Totally loved Batman: The Animated Series, the stories, writing and characters were outstanding. But for me, by far the best storytelling and character was, the Mr Freeze episode. The writing in the episode was superb, the character full of depth and the story itself was very moving. I wish they would just take that storyline and expand it into the next Batman full length movie. Imagine... Daniel Day lewis or Russel Crowe as the tragic and sympathetic, yet vengeful, amoral and deranged anti -hero that is Mr freeze!
Riddler seems like the only villain that could be realistically done. A friend pointed this out to me after the movie... Spoiler When Batman asks whether the new suit will protect against dogs, Fox says it will against Cats (Catwoman reference) and when the guy who tried to blackmail Fox went on the news claiming to knew Batmans identity...they refered to him as Mister E. (Mystery-Riddler reference?) Probably just some little jokes or something they wanted to throw in but thought it was a pretty interesting observation none the less.
Actually his name is "Mr. Reese" which speculation leads to a possible code for 'Mysteries.' Except that the Riddler's real name is Edward Nigma (E. Nigma). Atleast I hope so. I would hate to see anyone other than Johnny Depp get that role.
I actually think Superman would work as Batman villain, especially if it is anything like the Dark Knight Returns, where Supes was more of government enforcer. And the battle between them wasn't hokey at all.
