Superman and Batman’s Future Debated Posted on July 16, 2008 Last week both Variety and The Hollywood Reporter which are pretty much the source for REAL not gossip Hollywood news reported that Warner Brothers and DC Comics are talking seriously about what they need to do to compete with the awesome box office smashing strategy that the new Marvel Studios is using to cross promote their top heroes. Iron Man and the Incredible Hulk have both been successful and the follow up to Iron Man is already in the works- no early word on Hulk but there are plenty more Marvel movies scheduled. Warner Brothers has Watchmen ( starring Supernatural alum Jeffrey Dean Morgan) and that is it for superhero movies to promote at Comic Con this month while Marvel has a slew of new projects to promote. maybe cross Batman and Superman?
a Batman-Superman crossover movie would suck...royally. It would be impossible to move seamlessly through Metropolis and Gotham or include one of the two in the other's world. Some things just don't translate well to movies. TDK blew me away, and i HATE DC stuff. It would be difficult enough to make another great batman movie w/o Superman and his lame story.
It's got to be Catwoman. Read Batman: Year One to understand how the movies have always gotten her completely wrong. There's no other villain left that has the depth she does.
Joker, Two-Face, Ra's Al Ghul, Scarecrow and Catwoman are the perfect villains for Nolan's Gotham. Maybe Poison Ivy too. I could see several others in supporting roles but not carrying a film. Maybe Man-Bat. But Catwoman's the next natural choice.
Can't really see them doing that with how they've mostly stayed grounded in reality. Maybe Deadshot or some other assassin hired to take out Batman while he evades the law? I dunno...TDK is going to be tough to follow up.
TDK is gonna be damn tough to follow up. DAMN TOUGH. but you know they will. even if chris nolan cant think of a great idea, he will come out with something, even if it's Spiderman 3-like
I don't understand how Penguin would be so hard to do a serious take on. Even up to Batman Begins, a lot of folks still saw Batman in the campy Adam West or Superfriends mold.
No the Riddler is not similar to the joker. The Joker is one of a kind. I hope they keep Batman down to Earth and as real as can be. I dont want it turning all cheesy. Penguin, Riddler, Mad Hatter, Poison Ivy are all cheesy. Bane is just to meat headish. Why cant Batman just fight off the Mobsters or Mafia and just try to clean up the corrupt officers in the city. Maybe they can reintroduce the League of Shadows without Ras Al Ghul. They could probably bring in his daughter. I say no to giving the Joker role to anyone. Its done. Two Face is dead also. This movie should be about the dawn because TDK was the part where "the night is darkest before the dawn."
you do know what the term "down to earth" means.. right..? the Joker is not "down to earth".. the Scarecrow's methods and insertion into the first film.. was not "down to earth"... my god.. the notion of a man dressing up as a bat to fight crime.. is not "down to earth".. as isn't your proposed suggestion of an immortal Ras Al Ghul..
Since The Dark Knight ended with Batman on the run from the law (sorry no spoiler tag..but someone already mentioned it in the thread)...it is concievable that the next Batman villain could be a DC hero.
As much as I'd like to see Batman whoop Superman's ass, I don't think it's appropriate for the Nolan films
Chill out. What he probably meant with "Down to Earth" was realistic. Technically speaking, Nolan's take on Batman is the closest thing to realistic out of any superhero movie. It feels more real than any other superhero movie. It also what makes The Dark Knight not really feel like a superhero movie, but instead a crime/action/drama film.
