Yeah, I'd like to know how you propose on getting these players with the cap situation the rockets are in...

Honestly, how many MLE players can you count that have the skill levels of those 3 you mentioned? It's rather difficult to get a top 30 player with the MLE, no?

If either Mike James or Bonzi Wells are remotely possible, you have to think big in the draft. The draft is a gamble...IMHO, you gamble on the larger, more athletic person...why I wanted David Lee over Luther Head... ;)

Just from reading, Dominic McGuire seems like an upgrade to Hayes...

If we are to believe draft.net...Ante Tomic is "a Gasol type player" with the ability to play C, PF and SF...if true, Tomic allows the Rockets a lot of flexibility by using him at C and Battier at PF (assumes Wells, James or Snyder at SG).

Hey...that other Croation the Rockets drafted didn't turn out too badly...what was his name again...IIRC...Tomjanovic. :D

McGuire is an interesting prospect because of his length and athleticism. The rebounding, the shot blocking. He is a 3/4. And didn't Adelman say he was looking for 3/4s? This is the kind of guy that could play PF in a quick lineup or be that weakside shot blocking SF (ala AK 47). His offensive game is limited, but if you have enough scorers on the floor you can get away with that, just like we do now with Hayes at times.

I dont expect to get guys like this...our only hope is to pull off a late round steal by a relative unknown...

or a "top 30 player" demands to play here... but as i have said before... with the choke job this whole team did.... would you blame anyone for not wanting to come here..??

my point was to say in 4 years... those are the best we could get... from trades or free agency....

I'd love to get Law if we're able to move up. His ability to push the ball up the court and get to the rim has really impressed me. That being said, I don't think we have the ability to move up into the mid-teens.

So if we trade Luther plus our #26, what's the highest we could get?

    #18-#24 range maybe?

    #18 Warriors
    #19 Lakers
    #20 Heat
    #21 76ers
    #22 Bobcats
    #23 Knicks
    #24 Suns

Of course it all depends upon the receiving team's needs, but my gut says that Luther would be worth 4-5 spots, moving us up to #21 or #22. That could help if someone who we really like starts to slip.

good idea. luther and or snyder with our pick could move us up to a spot where we could draft a player which is ready to contribute.

the highest i would say is 16. the wizards would probably like luther alot. they don't have a lot of 3pt shooters on the team. infact i think all they have is arenas.

after them i'd look at the warriors at 18. they might have to let barnes walk if he is looking for an MLE type contract. snyder and luther both fit well but i think snyder would be more their taste.

So I guess there are several options here:

    #26 + Head = ?
    #26 + Snyder = ?
    #26 + 2008 1st Round Pick = ?

    #26 + 2008 1st Round Pick + Head = ?
    #26 + 2008 1st Round Pick + Snyder = ?

I'll try to find a point system for NBA Draft Pick values like the NFL has.

    Edit:
I couldn't find an NBA Draft Pick Value Chart.

Here's my gut feeling on the values in this draft (but I'm not taking into account whether the team holding the pick is in need of the player):

    #26 + Head = #21
    #26 + Snyder = #24
    #26 + 2008 1st Round Pick = #21

    #26 + 2008 1st Round Pick + Head = #17
    #26 + 2008 1st Round Pick + Snyder = #20

If a player we want slips down to the mid-upper teens, I think we'd have to offer our #26 + Head + a future 1st to get it done. Hopefully I'm just underrating the value of Luther, but that's the way I see it at this point.
