Well put. To be a star wing player in this league you either have to shoot exceptional from three or be able to create off of the dribble basically at will. Chase does both of these things fairly well but is by no means GREAT at either one. I think Chase will be a super role player and a fringe starter for many years. But if we get a chance to S&T for a star or move up into the top 5 of the draft, he's gone in a heartbeat. Same with Jordan Hill.
Bud is not top 5. Heck he didn't even make the all star rookie team. I understand that Bud has got skills and likely to be better, but there is no guarantee that he's going to be more then a bench player. IMO, that puts him behind most of the rookies that are starting right now. Yes, you can project where he's going to be in 3 years and rank him that way, but you can't compare that projection to other rookies skill level right now. You have to project them all. As well, I think it's fair to say that Bud is more replaceable then Hill just based on recent Rockets history. When's the last the Rockets had a young, tall, athletic PF/C with good shot blocking ability off the bench? You might be able to throw Landry in there, but he's not tall or that much of a shot blocker. So when's the last time we had a 3 point shoiting, slashing, athletic wing who could provide a scoring punch off the bench? Last year with Von Wafer. And if Bud leaves, there's legitimate thought that Taylor can fill that role. I'm not say Wafer and Taylor are as good as Bud or really have starter potential, but they can fill the role.
You may be right, and you may be wrong, he is a rookie, and is playing extremely well, shooting 50% of his 2pt shots.....while 45% of his shots are 3pters. When a guy like Matt Bullard is raving about your shooting (and he seems him every day) you know he can shoot. DD
Damn, for a minute there, I thought Chase was a rookie. I mean, Aaron Brooks was a great scorer his rookie season as well The fact that you guys are nitpicking about the "top 5" comment shows you are just trying to argue for the sake of arguing. Great...you argue he isn't top 5, but your examples show he is top 10. Top 15 is stretching it. The guy was a great steal in the draft and has only improved when he actually gets the chance to play.
Yep, a well reasoned post, they all want to take a bit out of the big dog, but they are just pups. DD
Thank You! DD thinks I am dillusional, but how will Chase get better? Will his ball handling improve? Will he get stronger without losing quickness? Weill he shoot 42% from 3? Will he become a lockdown perimeter defender? NBA career 6th man/borderline starter in the league. Textbook definition of a "solid" NBA player.
Yes Yes Could be, players are known to improve over their rookie years. Could be...see above...but probably not. Could be any of those...gonna be fun to see. DD
Everyone improves, but Aaron had much more natural talent and ability to improve. Chase will improve, but not by much more.
No offense JLo, but how do you know? And since you are clearly the great predictor, how will Yao do when he gets back? DD
depends on wat position we are trading for, if we're gettin Bosh then trade Hill if we're trading for a joe Johnson or other 2 guard, trade Budinger altho Id be terribly be saddened if one were dealt
Both of you are arguing based on NOTHING factual. We don't know what will happen with Chase. If I said Ariza could develop handles and his shot could improve DD would say, "hell no" If someone say's Chase will become an ego maniac and get fat in the summer it's all speculation. He's a bright Prospect SF. That's the only thing you can say.
Nope, I think there is a TON of room for improvement, but the dribbling thing would have to be learned from the ground up, my 7 year old is a better ball handler than Trevor is....and come to think of it shoots better too. That is all I have been saying. Just imagine all those wide open shots that Yao creates for him......ooooh baby ! DD
Ok DD, Ill tell you. It didn't take Nostradomis to know Lebron James would become a better shooter as his career went on. He had the athleticism to get his shots off, so inevitably they would fall. Same with Aaron Brooks. His quickness had to be respected so he would have room to get his shots off eventually. These guys were not as solid a shooter as Chase in their rookie years. This is much more of a compliment to Chase, as he is a much more solid rookie. But Kevin Durant will get better, Chris Paul is what he is. Jordan Hill will get better. Kyle lowry is what he is. Saying Chase will get better is like saying Chuck Hayes will get better. They are both solid but they are what they are.
And you base this on what? EDIT: read your post above, using ridiculous All-world NBA examples. I bet you thought Andrew Bogut was a bust as well. Slow white guy
I am trying to take you seriously, but having major difficulties not just calling your posts about this topic, stupid. So, help me out here, why is it that those players can get better, but Chase can not? Did Ray Allen get better? Did Rip Hamilton? Did Peja? DD
That's my big hope with Budinger. He does a lot of little things as well, but he is the guy I see running around a screen from Scola for the open three while the defense is focused on Yao, Brooks, and Martin. I could see his TS% over .600. If he does this, he'll be in Martin's tier.
