Finally, Tex, you and I are in complete agreement. REM I remember was one of my favorite bands when my older cousin who went to UGA let me listen to some of their old IRS tapes, like Murmur and Fables of the Reconstruction. I was hooked. I went to see them on their next tour and I was blown away. But they just fell apart, putting out mediocre albums that Rolling Stone rubberstamped with a perpetual five stars. After that awful Monster album, I'd had enough and I guess Bill Berry did too.
Are you sure it was not just a friendly invitation? Maybe you were reading too much into it. Perhaps he was just reacting to you backing off.
i don't know about the "women" part of that coma. back when i was in college, you would not believe the amount of chicks that would come over to my dorm room and flirt with me. seriously... they would come over one after the other and sometimes they would mistakingly come at the same time. i've had them ask to sleep on my bed, come to my room just to "relax", and actually emulate one of alliyah's dance videos in my room (of course you know that her videos had a bit of a sexual side to them). wtf is that crap? when they would ask to come over to "relax" i was like... "uh... ok? go ahead. i'm going to study in the library now. just lock the door before you leave" hmmm... i dunno. maybe they were trying to attain the unattainable or something. i pulled a radiohead on them... "you can try the best you can, if you try the best you caaaaan. the best you can is not good enough." even after i came out while still in school, they still wouldn't leave me the hell alone. argh! they were good friends and everything, but damn.
Lol! No...It wasn't a vague thing...there was no doubt, the way it was said, the inflection, the look...neither Kim nor I even discussed the possibility that it wasn't that...and he sort of confirmed it too when I said no, offered to see me another time...not us...it was pretty blunt...
Yet another Phil Hendrie reference: "I'm a gay man and a gay journalist, OK? Are you gay? Are you gay? Look, I'm a gay man and a gay journalist and my gay vision allows me to see things straight men don't see." -Doug Dangger, gay man and gay journalist I saw that tour at the Summit. Great show. I saw them a few years earlier at the Sam Houston Coliseum as well. Losing My Religion changed everything...
Yeah...it's a common thing. I think it's a combination of a few things...ego stroke, the ability to be aggressive without real fear, the attraction of the forbidden, and there are lots of women ( well, people really) who go for guys who, for whatever reason, can't be had...live elsewhere, gay, married, etc...sort of a fear of actual intimacy thing...But a lot of my gay friends say the same thing...the fact that they tend to be really really fit might help explain it too..
Hang around here long enough and you will agree with everyone on at least onetopic! Cool that your cousin went to UGA. My old man went to Georgia Tech waaaaaaaay back in the day (1948-52). Athens is an awesome place...alot like Austin, only smaller but with the same number of bands . I visited there in the mid 90s while I was still living in Los Angeles. I ate at Weaver D's, the soul food restaurant where REM got "Automatic For The People" from (the restaurant's trademark phrase is "Automatic for the People") and I picked up a tshirt and coffee cup with that phrase on them. I also got my (at the time) band's indie CD stocked in the stores there, and saw music at the 40 watt club.
I was shocked and then amused to learn that Rob Halford is gay. When I learned that Mike Patton (FNM) was gay, I was rather suprised as well.
I have heard that John Travolta is gay...or at least Bi. Friends of mine that were on his last movie shot here in Austin said he was making out with a guy between scenes. DD
God, if so I'll be Kelly Preston's 'beard'...She was one of my major sexual crush chicks when I was younger...and she has aged very well.
Yuck. The thought of JT making out with anybody is revolting. And yes, Kelly Preston is one hot older mama. Here's an obscure link re: JT and homosexuality. http://www.lermanet.com/cos/pattinson1.htm
I'll never forget that scene from Jerry Macguire "Don't ever stop..........." This is a PG-13 rated board, so I'll let you fill in the rest. To me she's up there with Demi Moore as one of the hottest 40+ age women around.
I have to confess to sitting through terrible movies like 'Mischief', 'Secret Admirer', and '52 Pick Up' simply because she took her top off in them with amazing regularity...
I'm not a big believer in time travel, but from what my cousin told me about the scene there in the early eighties, it was like a revolution. I'd definitely like to go back. It's changed a lot since suburban Atlanta is enroaching upon its environs, but I still like Athens a lot. I really want to go back to Austin, but since my twin sister graduated from UT-Austin in 2000, I have no real excuse to go.
Yeah, a bit of a surprise. A subtle clue was that he dressed like he was in a gay pride parade all year long. Those old Priest songs rock, by the way. Breakin' the law! Breakin' the law! I wonder if he'd chang the lyrics when performing in the US, what with the latest supreme court ruling.
I agree. She was on The Fox News Channel, Hannity and Colmes I think, promoting a cause recently. She looked great.
