Kevin Bacon. Well, I went to college with a guy who used to date this girl who worked at a......oh, never mind.
Cuttino Mobley Clyde Drexler George W (when he was still gov) Hakeem Olajuwon Sleepy Floyd Otis Thorpe Calvin Murphy Ray Childress and thats about it I think.
Cool topic. Ok.. These are people i've met Tree Rollins - came to the movie theater I worked at about 11 years ago when I still lived in Houston. Richie Sexson - (Milwaukie Brewers) went to my high school in Vancouver, WA for my senior year right after I moved from Houston. I've played pick up hoops w/ him but didn't really know him. We did graduate together though. Dan Dickau - same high school but he graduated 4 years later and my Mom was the Asst. Principal there. I don't really remember, but she says I met him in her office one day. I don't think he was in trouble. Incubus - met the boys several times before they really hit it big. Initially saw them w/ 311 and hung out and shared some 'kindness' w/ them after the show. My buddy's band opened for them in Seattle in '98 and after that show, they blew up and that's all she wrote for that brief friendship. Don Chaney - met in a restaurant w/ my Dad Nolan Ryan - autograph ball moe. - not sure if this band has celebrity status, but I just saw them w/ 20,000 people at the Bonnaroo music festival in Manchester, TN so they are celebrities to some of us. Anyway, went back stage a few years ago and hung out. Very cool, down to earth guys. Calvin Murphy - brought him some cookies at the Blazer game this year in Portland! I think that's it, unless you count tons of local musician celebrities from my time in Seattle. I played in a band and met quite a few people that are well known in the area, but not as much Nationally. Peace.
I sacked George Foreman's wife's groceries when I was sixteen, and when we got out to the car, he was sitting in it(got a dollar). I once ate dinner with Doogie HOwser, M.D.(Neal Patrick Harris). I once approached Bruce McCullough and Chris Robinson(Black Crowes) backstage after a Kids in The Hall show.(as well as the rest of the Kids). I have attended numerous benefits and parties for theatre and film, among them who I scmoozed with: Woody Allen Sarah Jessica Parker Matthew Broderick Cynthia Nixon Laurence Fishburne Bob Balaban Marlo Thomas Tom Dicillo Joel Schumacher MANY unknown, but extremely talented actors. After a Rockets Spurs game in San Antonio(when Carl Herrera played for SA), me and a whole bunch of friends saw him and his family and told him we liked him better in Houston. and finally, my dad knows "how sweet it is" Gene Peterson and that Dell Kid is a prick!
Jacob Lawrence - didn't "know" him, but I talked to him for a little bit a few times - wonderful guy...I was sad when he died. Edward Albee - complete ass - saw and talked to him more than I would have liked. Nancy Grossman - fairly well known - pretty sure one of her works (or a copy) is in the background of the apartment in "Will and Grace" Met Wynton Marsalis - really great teacher Met Rudy T - knew his daughter ( a little - mostly through my sister) Really good friends with Ron Stone - local celeb...he came to my wedding Met Elvin Hayes Met Bush sr when I was young - only remember a bunch of guys in suits surrounding me and my mother Sent a letter to Dennis Hopper - business, not as a fan Bumped into (literally) Don Shula at Heathrow airport in London Mrs JB, Cool about Ginsberg. I had a fried from Kansas who said that Burroughs was always around the KU campus trying to pick up college boys.
I exchanged letters with E.B. White. I used a quotation from one of his works on my oldest son's birth announcement back in 1983. "A child's mind is like a rat's nest, full of trinkets...." He wrote me back a nice letter.... asking me to cite the reference for him. LOL. I did-- hoping this would begin a series of exchanges but that was the last of it. He died about two years later as I recall. I think I did get a note from hs son telling me how pleased his dad had been to have his work used in such a meaningful way and also explaining about his dad's poor heatlh and thus his inability to correspond. I had E.B.'s letter and the dust cover from the book from which I extracted the quote matted and framed as a souvenir. Read his collected essays. They are a treat. ******************************************** In 1973 I worked for the Oilers in training camp at Shriner Institute in Kerrville. I was a flunkee. I worked at practices. Did laundry. Meal checker. Drove cut players to the airport (that was fun). That was the summer after the Oilers had traded Ken Houston to Washington. Oilers picked up a WR (McNeil?) who kept tellig us that George Allen told him that he was just as good as Charley Taylor. Ha-ha. I remember one night answering the phone. It was Jerry Levias calling for Sid Gillman (GM) begging Gillman to reacquire him from San Diego-- he wanted to come back to Houston. Also got to drive Bob Woolf (the Boston-based agent) to the airport at the end of negotiations for John Matuszak's first contract. We had a damn flat on I-45 and had to find him a cab stranded in the center median on I-45 in 5 o'clock traffic on one of those hot Texas summer days. Fellas, this was way before cell phones. He was very nice about it when he could have been very disgruntled. Later, he was Larry Bird's agent among others.
I can remember hanging out at Numbers on Westheimer when Al Jorgenson of Ministry was there. I didn't say anything unless it was, "Hey." I remember being at some pizza place on Alabama (?)--Was it Pizzeria Uno?--and Robert Horry came in. He was on a date (before he was married), so I didn't say anything. I can also remember getting to sit on Daisy Duke's lap at the car show in Houston when I was little.
Trish Stratus. She was really nice, but being called "kiddo" by a sex symbol doesn't do much for one's self-esteem.
Van Cliburn. My first piano teacher was the mother of a former medal winner of his competition. She was an authoritarian figure and beat me regularly for being overdramatic (hey, Liszt was overdramatic too) and having bad form. I had been playing since I was 4 though, so I was pretty precocious, which led her to introduce me to her son who in turn introduced me to Van Cliburn. Being as young as I was, I didn't really appreciate being in his presence at the time.
I went to Michael Olowokani's graduation (also my brother's) and talked to him for less than a minute. My brother and cousin were bat boys for the Stockton Ports (a minor league team in the Brewer's farm system) and I got to meet Gary Sheffield, I have his minor league card somewhere.
Let's see: Hakeem (every friday, mosque thing) Robert Horry Stevie Francis Cuttino Mobley Rudy T Clutch (The Bear) Van Chancellor Laphonso Ellis Lance Berkman Jeff Bagwell Craig Biggio Rashard Lewis (When he went to Elsik) A bunch of old oilers players when they played the Baytown Jaycees in a basketball game Mike Munchak Ray Childress I also met a couple of people who weren't actually "celebs" but they're known: The old guy who does weather on Ch.11, I think it's Neil Frank The investigative reporter guy who does reports for Fox 26 Mayor Lee Brown Sheila Jackson Lee Mattress Mac And here's some international celebs: Shahrukh Khan - Indian Movie Star (He's also my cousin) Akshay Kumar - Indian Movie Star Lata Mangeshkar - Indian Singer Asha Bhosle - Indian Singer Some Pakistani pop group New SoundZz, something like that Munni Begum - Indian Singer Some old singer guy, Mohd. Rafi, or Talat Rafi, or Mohd. Talat something
MAN, am I lame. The only semi-famous people i've ever met were Papa Roach in dallas. I got all of their autographs and stuff. They seemed all really nice and they appreciated their fans. the lead singer had ADD like a mo-fo, however.
Dude, you were just in my home town!!! Now that I remember it, you like Phish don't you and they were at Bonnaroo. I was NOT happy with the traffic problems to say the least, but I was lucky that I knew enough of the back roads to not get stuck like some of these other poor saps I talked to. They say they are going to try to have Bonnaroo every year in Manchester. Next year, you need to look me up, 3finger. Also, I forgot to mention that my mother had to go to Dallas about 10 years ago or so for some college organizational meeting that she was sponsoring (she teaches at a junior college). Well at their hotel, she and this other woman saw a bunch "of really tall black guys." Of course, they saw someone later who told them that they had seen Michael Jordan and I think, Bill Cartwright. Of course, by the time they had realized that it was too late to get MJ's autograph. Turned out that the Bulls were playing the Mavericks that weekend.

I told you people some of the people that i have met in the past out there. but that was well, an abrevitaion of the reality. an update of this weekend?? you ask.
