Perfect my backside. It has nothing to do with "hands on" or "hands off". Rudy T was hands off. He also had talent on the roster, a basket protector and players who played both sides of the ball. Van Gundy couldn't get them out of the 1st round with a healthy Grady and Yao. It's about talent. Get over it.
i blame Steve Francis. he cursed our franchise by forcing a trade from Vancouver. then i blame Lebron... just because.. F*** him.
Wow, Rockets basketball has probably reached its nadir or low point. I mean I always watch those youtube 1986 clips of the Rockets Lakers conference finals just to entertain myself. That was good, exciting, entertaining basketball to watch. The names of the Rocket heroes will forever be engrained in my mind--Robert Reid, Lewis Lloyd, Mitchell Wiggins, Jim Peterson, Ralph Sampson, Allen Leavell, Rodney McCray, Hakeem Olajuwon. Ever since Hakeem was traded to Toronto, Rockets basketball hasn't been as exciting and entertaining. Yeah, maybe that 22 game winning streak with T-Mac raised hopes for a while. But its been all downhill badnews, and more badnews. Someone to blame? Hmm....I don't know if blaming someone would solve the problem. 1) D. Morey? Was he the GM who engineered the trade for Jared Jeffries? A huge salary, and he just sits on the bench? That's my piece against D. Morey. 2) Coach Adelman. Why doesn't he field Ishmael Smith more often? Granted that the frontline of the Rockets isn't as strong as it used to be. But, c'mon, the ball movement or motion offense could be improved if they used Ishmael Smith more. 3) Flopping mentality. Maybe its just me? When I watched 1986, or 1992-1996 Rockets basketball, I never saw Hakeem, Otis Thorpe, or Vernon Maxwell, or Larry Smith flop or feign taking a strong hit just to get a call. Today? C'mon, Luis Scola and everyone else does it like its the hippest move that would rival doing the makarena. Anyway, until the Rockets roster is cleared, or they suddenly get into the playoffs and actually win a series, I'll stick to watching those old 1986 clips(Ralph and company) and 1993 clips (Mad Max and company). Rockets basketball aint what it used to be.
I would have to blame Morey with Les a close second. Morey built this team around Yao, who can't stay healthy. Les refused to see the writing on the wall early enough and get rid of Yao, or at least go a different direction. I truly feel most of the players are playing to their ability, i think we were spoiled because some played above their ability initially.
Where's the option for none of the above ? Its hard to blame anything but the injury to Yao and to a lesser degree that of McGrady for the Rockets recent troubles. If they are still playing at the top of their games this team is a contender. The rest of the roster was put together to compliment Yao. They have tried and failed at replacing Yao in the middle. They were stuck with trying to fill that void last year with David Andersen and this year with Brad Miller & Jordan Hill. I really believe that those guy's were the last resort at the time of their signings. There just werent / arent better options available. Morey tried to go in different directions but never found the right piece or the other party willing. This trade deadline , they almost have to make a move to solve this problem or watch several of their trade assets expire. If anything , I'd blame Les for hanging onto the golden cow - the key to China - Yao for too long. I would almost bet that DM's hands were tied when it comes to Yao's place on the roster up until this latest injury. Now that Yao will come off the books , we'll see what Morey is made of.
Basketball is politics. Players arent playing due to the chain of command, ie.. DM. For what reason we will find out. I've said it before and I will say it again, if we are losing, at least let us have fun watching our youngs play.
I dont buy this. Everyone says Morey is so brilliant. If he was so brilliant, there would have been a brilliant back up plan. Ie.., EVERYONE knows Yao is injury prone so to be honest, you make Yao a bonus, not the center piece. If he is healthy, awesome bonus. If not, then being the brilliant GM that CF's makes me out to be, I've already prepared the team for this. Fkuc nuts.
I blame Morey for acquiring Brooks, Landry, Scola, Lowry, and Martin. Those guys keep us from getting to the bottom of the standing, dashing our hope for a good draft pick. I blame Adelman for not playing Hill, Patterson, Williams, Smith, Jeffries, Taylor, Cook, Francis, Bonzi... and the list goes on. I blame the players for hustling out there on the floor, giving us false hope that they could actually win the game. They should just lie down and walk away, so that we don't have to be disappointed in losing by a few point at the end, or in OT. Lastly, I blame Les Alexander for having a team in Houston. He should have folded the franchise years ago and put us all out of misery.
Ranked in order 1.) Injuries to Yao Ming and Tracy McGrady ... ... ... ... ... ...infinity ... 2.) Morey and org failing to acquire a suitable long-term backup for Yao over the course of a decade. 3.) Morey and org acquiring/drafting players solely based on their internal rankings/metrics with no regard for team need (length, height, athleticism). 4.) Les being cheap? I actually don't know if this is true. All I can go by is that he has yet to demonstrate a willingness to pay the luxury tax. Morey is also the main reason we're even as good as we are, so it's kind of hard to blame him. I just think he could have done a little better job filling in the team's holes.
NONE of the above. i blame carmelo for not wanting to sign with us and GMs who dont want to trade with morey. simple.
There is blame to go around but one guy overwhelmingly bears the blame for what this sad season, Clutch the Bear! He has always been chunky but this season he has really let himself go and is just not contributing to the success of this team. Clearly he needs to go. I would work out a trade deal for Crunch from the T-Wolves who has the athleticism we need in a mascot.
The lack of support for this team is really depressing. I'm not saying that's the problem, but it is a problem.
