Exactly. Of course, to accept that, you'd also have to accept the premise that sports are actually decided by strategy, physical talent and occasionally luck, as opposed to random psychological stuff and coaches playing the roles of psychologists. And if you accept that, 90% of the sports media would be without a job! :D

No. If you look over my clips at wherever I've been, you'll see I try and use my space on actual analysis and reporting, as opposed to discussing random psychological garbage. Now, I understand why a lot of journalists use those angles (and many have specifically told me as such) — "average Joe" fan can't relate to the ins and outs of football strategy, but he can relate to "mental hurdles" and it's easier and less complex for "average Joe" to talk about at the watercooler. But it's sacrificing accuracy for the sake of readership, and I think that's wrong.

Sorry for the sports journalism tangent... back to the playoffs...

You guys have the wrong understanding of what I am saying. I am not saying that physical ability isn't a factor. I am saying that it doesn't matter how much physical ability you have if you doubt that you cannot beat your opponent then you are not going to beat them. I.E, the rumble in the Jungle.

So what you're saying is that despite beating them the last time they played (earlier this year), and the last time they played in the playoffs (2003), the Titans didn't believe they could win. Brilliant!

Man if the Eagles didn't punch that in from the 2, I was going to switch the channel.

After the pick, I wonder if Eli was thinking "don't run towards me, don't run towards me!"

Home field advantage doesn't mean squat in the NFL anymore.

It isn't as big of a deal as the NBA, largely because NBA refs generally favor the home team (which does change the competitive advantage more than it should).

The NFL, however, is all about parity. Pretty much any team has the capability to go into another team's house any given Sunday and give them a game. Also, unlike the NBA, road teams in the NFL play in a hostile environment for EVERY road game... and after 9-10 of them, you can easily grow accustomed to the added pressure of playing in front of a rabid stadium rooting against you. Uncontrollable things like injuries and weather play even more of a role than in any other sport.

It would be pretty ironic that after all the talk last week about how all the road teams were favored, that THIS is the week that all the road teams end up winning.

I was just about to post something similar. You might not like the Eagles but you have to admit, their defense looks great!

If I were a coach and a RB tried to dive over the line, his ass would be cut. That **** don't work.

You know what the funny thing is.....The Arizona Cardinals are going to host the NFC Championship Game. I mean the Arizona Cardinals. Who had their money on that at the beginning of the year.
