Everything I've read on Welsch is making him out to be another possible Euro phenom in the NBA. Problem is, I think his stock will begin to rise as we get closer to draft time. I wouldn't be surprised to see him move up to the 10th-15th pick.
Trade the pick, or draft best available. If you are relying on the #2 pick to be your backup player, who will play significant minutes, then you have bigger problems than who to draft with the #2 pick. Just draft the guy with the best potential. Chances are a #2 pick won't have much immediate impact anyway. Might as well reap the benefits (if you do reap any benefit) a few years later.
if u want a point guard early in the second round, why not draft juan? i mean, hell, we already have 3 maryland guys out of like 5 in the league right now, why not juss rename ourselves the houston terrapins and draft every maryland player that we can and then trade for joe smith. obviously im joking on the last part but if u really do want a pg DIXON DIXON DIXON we need some heart on this team.
If Jiri Welsch is not available on our spot, I will take Juan Carlos Navarro from Barcelona. I think, taking him will be a steal. When we want a C, we should think about Lazaros Papadopoulos. I've seen many games in Euroleague with him. It's obvious, that he needs time to develop, but he looks good for me - I would say - as Jake Tsakalidis with better shot.
Finalsbound if teams only drafted players because they were the prototypical size for their positions we would not have seen players like Mugsey Bouges, Spud Webb, Charles Barkley, Allen Iverson or Isiah Thomas. I want players who can play not players who look like they can play. Yeah Sam Clanceys only 6'7" but he can play and has the love for the game that makes people play above their abilities. I would LOVE to see the Rockets get him in the 2nd round. If you ask me Kenny Thomas was an absolute steal at pick #21 if Clancey falls to the 2nd round I would call that an absolute fellony.
Well let's see we'd have Taylor Clancy Thomas Griffin all at the 4. I'm just saying I think, even in the second round, there is talent and we should continue to draft according to need.
I think we might get 2 second rounders, so we should try to do whatever's necessary to get Dixon. The guys intangibles are unreal and we could probably make Mooch expendable if we got him.
Does anyone think Franky Williams from Illinois will slip to the 2nd round? His stock fell alot this year but he was a preseason all american, and he is as hard nosed as they come at the point. This guy could be really really good. I would say he will go 10-20 but you never know.
John Salmons (Miami U) at 6'7" has played every position but center in college, averaged 6 assists, consistent scorer and a strong defender. My interest was to use him to give us depth at three positions pg/sg/sf. He could push TBrown the entire season by competing for his minutes. Drex22: Frank Williams (Illinois) is notoriously streaky. He can go scoreless the first half, and either score 25 in the second or not score much the entire game. He does possess good size, has demonstrated good skills and has tremendous upside. In my opinion his potential will likely keep him into the first round. If he was consistent, he might have been 5-10. bsb8532: How would we get two second round choices this year?
