We apparently have given up Lin, a 1st, and a 2nd rounder to LA. Do we have any idea about who we are getting back from them in return? Not a huge Lin fan, but this sounds pretty bad right now.
It sounds bad, but we do have cap space to sign another player. That player may be better than Lin. Have to wait and see.
We get back not having to pay Lin $15 million for the upcoming season. That and the purge of the LOFs from here makes the trade worth every penny.
Better than Lin, yes, but better than Lin, a 1st, and a 2nd? That needs to be pretty good. Which is why I am curious if we have any potential names for the international player. You never know, maybe they might be someone who could help? (grasping at straws here)
Why would you want a TPE versus pure cap room. A TPE is an exception for when you're over the cap. You can't have both cap room and a TPE
Because if you match on Parsons, that TPE lasts for a year, whereas that cap space disappears when you go over the cap in a day or two. The TPE buys you time. The only situation where your though process makes sense is if you are going to let Parsons go to Dallas. The thing, I think, is you would have to match on Parsons before consummating the trade, or you'd drop under the cap and that TPE would never get created.
yea chris.....wait...no....LOL Plus you'd have to do it by SUnday before matching Parsons. Unless youll let him walk to.
The trade exception and that contract off the books. Addition by subtraction. Keeping the TPE is a big deal, as already pointed out. It allows trade flexibility for the next year. It isn't just about the cap space now, it is also about being able to absorb more money later. And the price was a backup PG who had lost his mojo.
