lol, so when yao has been single teamed, we haven't consistently gotten him the ball and he hasn't made teams pay? are you saying that's not true. orlando, nyk, SA, LAL. all single teamed yao for the most part and yao got lots of shots in those games. games where yao is fronted with a help behind him he hasn't gotten many shots. there is no pass that will get the ball in that situation. there may be a way to swing the ball to the side, have yao roll off him man and try to get a pass then, but no post passer can break the laws of physics and make that pass, not even robert horry. you can't pass to a guy who is fronted and also can't outjump the guy behind him.

on occasion, we have found a way to deal with this type of defense, like the second celtics game. but teams aren't stupid, they adjust to make sure we can't do those things easily either.

you simplify it MacBeth to just say all we have to do is concentrate on inside-out and it will happen. or we need to force the double team. the double is already there most of the time. you can only do so much to get the ball to a guy with two guys around him. fast passes, yao rolling on his man can work, but they won't be consistent unless you can get good enough at outside shooting to make teams unwilling to play that type of D in the first place. our best counter so far has been to throw it to mo/cato at the top of the key and have yao try to seal his man in the middle of the paint. but even that suffers from deflected passes or being abandoned b/c yao has to move before a 3 sec. violation.

it seems to me almost every possession that doesn't include yao setting a pick out high starts with us trying to get it into yao. when he's single teamed with his guy behind him, he gets it. when he's fronted and he has to fight for 5 or 6 seconds just to get position, yeah the ball will get swung away from him. you can't wait forever. and when he's fronted with backside help and we waste time trying fruitlessly to get it to him we suffer. bring yao out to face the basket, shoot better, something. but you can't just force what isn't there. we've proven we will feed yao a lot when he's got easy position. the last 4 times it's happened, we've given him the ball and had success. but most teams don't do this, and if in the next game they don't, well then don't expect yao to dominate and don't blame it on our unwillingness to force it into yao.
