And do you consider Elgin, which is what it turns into at Downtown?

    But it is a road.

Wait. Are you defining roads that end with "Street?" As opposed to lanes, avenues, etc?

and it's not the only intrastate freeway. in fact, it's not the only one in texas (i-37 and i-27 come to mind).

btw, if you include westheimer parkway, it now goes all the way to katy-flewellen in katy itself.

    I'm not sure! :)

When I google longest continuous street in america, the answer comes back on a few sites as that street in Denver at 26 miles. I thought it was Westheimer...it's not...but I'm guessing it's pretty close.

yeah, but it shouldn't count since it's a) a different street name and, more importantly b) it's not the same street. :)

this can't be counting streets that are continuous, but change names. us hwy 41 in chicago goes up to the wisconsin border and most of the road is technically a street with numerous stop lights. but it changes names at certain points during the route.

Gessner is 20.5 miles. I didn't include the section above West Rd since it stops and then picks back up at Fallbrook before ending at Willowbrook Mall.

I did Google Map search from north side (8600 Gessner Rd, Houston, TX 77064) to south side (14047 S Gessner Rd, Missouri City, TX 77489)

yeah, i'm not sure. i mean, that road's always been there, i'm just not sure when they stop calling it westheimer and start calling it 1093 (that is the correct fm number, right?).

If you include FM 1093 then that goes all the way out to Wallis, TX. That would make it 49.4 miles. But you can't really include that since it changes names and you would have to include Elgin on the East side of Westheimer too.

If you're only counting the street length when it has the name Westheimer (and not Westheimer Parkway, etc) then it is 19.6 miles according to Google Maps.

West side (17400 Westheimer, Houston, TX 77082) to East side (101 Westheimer Rd, Houston, TX 77006)

Edit: I just realized that makes Gessner longer than Westheimer. So Westheimer isn't even the longest street within Houston!

what about bellaire? i think it stops and starts again, but it looks like at some point it will be connected all the way out past grand parkway. richmond should be a little longer than westheimer too (if westheimer ends at hwy 6).

um, he said in his post that he wasn't sure if that was true.

lemme go find a fail picture for your claim that I-45 is the only "intrastate" freeway when there are at least two more in texas alone.

I didn't realize Gessner was so long till I started living in spring branch and realized you could drive all the way from 290 down to to past 59 south without stopping. its obviously not a popular street like westheimer so I believe most people in Houston probably wouldn't realize. Another one is Tidwell.
