I was listening to Big Van Vader's interview with Stone Cold and I'd have to agree with you. He went into detail over his time with New Japan and how huge New Japan and All Japan were in the mid 80's. Those guys in the 80's were LEGENDS over there. Not just popular or famous, people legitimately feared and respected them like icons.
I'm under 30 so I grew up in the Attitude Era/Monday Night Wars. 1) Stone Cold Steve Austin. He was the face when the WWE needed that boost to start overtaking WWE. Loved the dgaf attitude and it personified the company at the time. 2) The Rock. The best was when he and SCSA feuded. He sold the Stunner like no other. Best mic/charisma than anyone the company has seen. 3) Shawn Michaels. Best in-ring competitor and helped usher in the Attitude Era with D-Generation X. 4) Sting. My favorite WCW and was WCW. One of the reasons why I stayed with Nitro for so long...Kevin Nash and Hulk Hogan killed that company. 5) Undertaker. One of the best gimmicks ever and always gave me chills. That American Bad Ass portion of his career sucked but gave him a chance to fine tune his mic skills. 6) Bret Hart. Best technician. Always loved Bret and was my favorite for a long time before the Attitude Era. 7) Chris Jericho. I loved Jericho in WCW and early WWE. He was one of the few where I hated him as a heel and loved as a face. One of the few people to constantly put people over later in his career. 8) CM Punk. This generations best overall wrestler. Great mic skills and persona, especially as a heel. He knew how to push the envelope and would go over the line on almost every occasion he got. 9) Razor Ramon. One of the first to make being the bad guy cool. LOVED his matches with Shawn Michaels. 10) Kurt Angle. It's true..It's damn true. Lol I hated him so much growing up and now I appreciate how good of a heel he was after he left the WWE and the company then lacked a top heel.

So, if we talk about greatest high flyers ever, should also omit Mistico, Liger, Tiger Mask (I-V, best - 1 and 2), Super Crazy, Yo****sune, and Mil Mascaras.
But big stage would not pay him the same money that Japan would. Does this mean he was bigger than the big stage?
I haven't watched wrestling much nowadays: 1. The Rock 2. Stone Cold 3. Macho Man Randy Savage 4. The Undertaker 5. Mankind 6. Eddie Guerrero 7. Kane with the mask 8. Rey Mysterio 9. Kurt Angle 10. RVD

We can sit here and debate al day but in the end it comes down to opinion... It really depends by what your criteria is, I tried to mix Ring ability, marketability, charisma, and for me they had to of at least had one big time moment. If we are going by which guys are fun to watch on an undercard than sure add in all those guys... Imo Shelton Benjamin was about as entertaining as anyone could get in the ring but there is no way I would try to put him on any type of top ten list just because of everything else about him that wasn't top ten worthy.
1. Stone Cold 2. Macho Man 3. Bret Hart 4. Ultimate Warrior 5. Undertaker 6. Sting 7. Mick Foley 8. The Rock 9. Jericho 10. HBK
My top ten 1.) SCSA 2.) Macho Man 3.) HBK 4.) Rock 5.) Sting 6.) Flair 7.) Angle 8.) Guerrero 9.) Taker 10.) Jericho
