Honestly, I just watched them against the Rockets on league pass and I didn't think they were terrible. They were saying the Rockets were good. I think they said Brooks was really quick. They said Chalmers was fast. Maybe my standards are too low. I don't mind homerism; it can be jolly and fun. Pure blind hateful homerism is the absolute worst though, in my opinion. So as long as you don't display that, then it doesn't leave a bad taste in my mouth. I'll watch more Heat games and see how it goes. You're probably right though.
I don't hear many other team commentators but I can tell you this. Best - Lakers Worst - Boston (Whiny, every call against them is "TERRIBLE" - Tommy Heinsohn, in an annoying accent) I also heard the Sonics guys, they were pretty good.
I wouldn't put us worst. Bottom 3 though. Utah and Boston have to be worse than ours. Right? Please God agree with me. I like the Kings and Lakers announcers. The Blazers, while homers, I enjoy for some reason. The Raptors I enjoy because at times it's like MST3K. I'm not sure we'll ever find a local crew that can top the Seattle announcers. And that's why.
That is so true. Actually Lakers' commentators make me watch LA's games every single fridays/sundays/saturdays (if they play of course). They are the best, period. Sonics' guys used to be pretty good as well, you are right. Boston, of course they SUCK but right now I belive Clippers announcers are much WORSE
i watched couple clippers games last year. i dont think they are that bad. Actually i found them quite entertaining since they kept joking throughout the game. Nets' are pretty good too. Marv is the best.
The Orlando guys were really good. I actually didn't complain once to my wife while watching the Rockets-Magic game a few weeks ago. They were insightful and had solid commentary\color throughout the game. I was impressed that they knew the Rockets and talked in pretty decent depth about every player who saw time (AB, Landry, etc.). They obviously were Magic announcers, but it wasn't a blatant love fest. Most of the time, announcing annoys me, but these guys enhanced the game. I'd prefer those guys over Bill\Clyde and Bill\Bull every day. I go through this every year, but Clyde seems completely awful this year (even by his standards). It's almost enough to make me want them to bring back Calvin.
Worst - Nuggets and Hornets announcers, seems like they have the best team in the league. i can't stand them period.
They are the WORTS duo in the leauge. Man, McGrady 14 points in the half and they are saying he shouldn't be playing, he is awful. It is just damn ridiculous.
Tonight against the Blazers, during a jump ball he said Channing Frye was Greg Oden. Another time after Frye missed a jumper, he called him LaMarcus Aldridge. Then he called Travis Outlaw, "Charles Outlaw". All of this happened within half a quarter.
YES and MSG have the best announcing teams. Even if Breen can do a knicks game because of ESPN commitments they get Ian Eagle or Gus Johnson to do the games. Same with YES if Marv and Mike cant do a game its Ian Eagle or Gus Johnson. I guess it helps being in the NY market to be able to afford top level pbp guys. I disagree about the lakers i cant stand joel myers he should have stayed on the radio. paul sunderland was better imo, but he got the boot because he came right after Chick Hearn who was the best ever hands down and no one could ever convince me otherwise. Actually Spiro Dedes who does the lakers radio games is pretty good I wish they had given him a chance to do the games on tv.
*Sigh*. This is what I deal with on a nightly basis. The only positive about Hastings is that he's whining less than last year. Still more than 95% of the announcers, but less than normal for him.
nuggets announcers are ridiculous homers. during the nuggets rockets game this season, yao missed a free throw and one of the announcers goes "BUDDHA KNOWS!!!!"
you need to venture out sometime just to see what's out there. The pair of Jim Barnett and Bob Fitzgerald, who works for Golden State, is simply that best, by far. While i have no problems w the YES and MSG announcers, they're far from being the best.
