I couldn't believe it took that long for someone to post that. He killed us before he ever possessed a jumpshot. He single-handedly defied the (then) rules of the game. I don't want to cheapshost him any more than I want a labotomy, but he almost single-handedly led us to the current NBA. You think the Pistons were a fun team to watch? Almost. The Suns? Well that's a team I just better shut up about because they just continue to confound me (no excuses here, I think all the explanations are all BS too). The Mavs? I've liked that team for two years now. Yeah, really (I have an unusually high threshold for pain). But my entire perspective of today's NBA really begins with Payton. And I hate him. tinman, you're just a cool guy, aren't you?
Would have to go with John Stockton as the all time Rocket Killer, the guy just always had a way to not just beat us but make us misserable in the process.... Karl Malone, it seemed like the guy never missed a shot against us.... Steve Nash same as Karl Malone, just never really misses a shot against us (of course he's more of a modern day Rockets killer), same as Ginobilli. Penny, in his younger days ALWAYS killed us. KG, and boy do I agree with Macmoud abdul Rauf (Chris Jackson I beleive was his birth name), he always killed us. There's a lot more, I just can't think right now......Good thread though.
for the most part the rockets did well against the jazz, they just out lasted them and you newer fans get the sense that they beat the rockets all the time, but the rockets beat the jazz both championship runs. In the first championship they dominated the jazz. they beat em 4-1. the barkley trade made them worse against the jazz defensively ron harper is a good call. so is payton and kj. another one is fat lever from denver. another one, michael cage.
PG is right, up until 1997 we were kryptonite to the Jazz. it was sweet because in 95, people were saying "this is a new Jazz team, it's finally their year, blah blah blah" and then we upset them in 5 with a fouled-out Hakeem and Chuckie Brown and Charles Jones on the floor making up a substantial 4th per deficit and then winning in overtime. That was awesome to humiliate them like that.
Yes! Evans was his name I think. Was he the little guy that played for the Nuggets and would always hit those killer 3's. This was in the 80s.
i think you might be referring to fat lever...i think a couple posters have mentioned him in this thread or you might be talking about michael adams...anyways both of them are rockets killers in my book
the phx game hurt but i kinda expected it....even though tracy was healthy we had no chemistry on the court so just imagin next year a healthy line up and chemistry built up whoa
as for my rocket killer id have to go with the stockton one was heart breaking cuz that was a luck ass shot over sir charles.....now sam i am kills us on a regular basis
Am I missing something, or didn't we beat the Jazz in both of our title runs? I'd hardly call them "killers." John Stockton just eliminated us in post title runs... (they still have ZERO ) James Worthy Larry Bird Dennis Johnson Kevin McHale Sam Perkins Dale Ellis Jason Terry and Refs
Anybody mention Detlef Schremph (sp?)? But then again, the entire Sonics team use to kill us all the time.
