Is there a more pressure-packed situation for a defender then the last few minutes of a playoff game against a top scorer?
“Three-fourths of the world is covered by water. The rest is covered by Chuck Hayes.” Shane Battier But, we should all know that Hayes will not get any consideration in DPOY, no matter what. He doesn't have the offensive game (name recognition), the size (for credibility), the stats (blocks and steals), or the team (we're not an efficient defensive team anymore) to get the consideration. Honestly, even as a good defender, I don't know that he would deserve it. Yao actually warps offenses with his presence, which is what put Houston so high in the defensive stats last year. Dwight Howard does that too. I don't see Chuck doing that. McGrady has also been asked -- and performed admirably -- to guard the top scorer in the last few minutes of playoff games, but he gets no respect as a defender. He did a great job on Dirk (for the better part of the series, not just at end games) a few seasons back. It's good to be able to do that, but doing it every game all the time is another thing again.
Do you post every thread you create at other boards? I've noticed both of yours here at realgm, I'm wondering how many other copies are out there...
