I seriously doubt these teams like Toronto and Phoenix will just pawn off their players for Tracy and AB (per say) and a bad contract. They know that this is a potential crisis on our hands and we will be desperate for a star/superstart to replace not only Tracy but now Yao.
The problem with Bogut is that he's being paid until he's 48.... His contract is SO LONG. Okafurs contract is pretty much the same. Can't see what deal we could put together to get Gasol from the Grizzlies. Biedrins might be available with Azubuike and Wright if we had the right package to send back. Perhaps McGrady + Brooks for Biedrins, Azubuike, Wright and Maggette. That's be a tempting deal, but really we'd be committing until 2013 to a core of Maggette and Biedrins alongside whichever other peices we choose to add (ie, it screws our flexibility!) I don't think it's worth it. If we could flip Battier for Camby that'd be a useful 1 year loan (although for certain it'd be Camby's injured season...). I think Battier being moved means we'd have to re-sign Ron AND Wafer as our wings. McGrady for Miller and Hinrich would work - but only if Chicago want to dump salary long term. Advantage in this move is that Miller is a 1 year 'rental' while Hinrich's salary decreases and isn't HORRIBLE. Plus we keep our core and add to it and perhaps have some leverage on dealing Brooks (for a pick or for some more size?). It'd also save us $2million this season. New Orleans are looking to save money - don't see a viable deal for Chandler. Kaman is injured more than Ming - not worth it. And I think Philly would be looking to hold on to Dalembert if they want to move Brand.
Portland made the playoffs in 2002/3 - then the next 5 seasons they didn't have a single winning season. If you're saying "let's go for 5 years of no playoffs and no winning seasons just so we can lose in the first round" then sure, Portland is the model to follow. I just don't think 5 years of futility is the way to build a ball-club.
Agreed. If we have a core of players who are keen to win we have more chance of landing a big time star who wants to win. Play your hardest and maximise the assets we have to make a trade.
These posts frantically seeking a center replacement would be akin to a 5th place Astros team worrying about their middle relief options. It doesn't matter anymore. Our holes don't matter, our lineup doesn't matter. Just amass young talent and let it sort it itself out naturally over the ensuing years.
Its funny how you made this list but remember you have to give up something to get someone in return. BTW Emeka Okafor is not a center. Also almost everyone on this list is defensive minded. Tyson Chandler is horrible. Injury prone player. As is Kaman and Camby. I thought the idea of rebuilding was to get rid of things that didn't work. Your asking for injury prone players when this team is already cursed with injured players?? not a good idea buddy.
Why was my subject post merged with this one? I simply asked who would ppl rather have: Bosh or Stoudemire... thats not cool.
So your basically saying theres no reason to replace Yao now and wait and build for the future. I see it now
I'm always thinking forward in terms of the team. I this given by the op sounds ok, but I think the top target should be someone like DeAndre Jordan. I think he can be a double double guy and he's so young, he has upside. No way should the rox be looking for a guy to backup Yao. They need next. Next as a center, then u target a pf as ur low post scorer. I think that's the best way to go. Let yao contract expire and trade everyone not named brooks, landry, lowry. Everyone else needs to go.
First off I said Centers that we could trade for so I'm very aware that we have to give up something! Secondly, I just started a list of possible replacements that could be starters rather than all the other guys being mentioned that are only free agent options. Also I know some of these guys aren't even worth going after but I just listed them as options. (I personally would like Marc Gasol!) and Emeka Okafor is a starting Center. I know he is only 6'10 but he is the starting Center for the Bobcats!!
This is a good thread to consider options given the possiblility we will have no starting center next year. Two questions in my mind,. First, do we need an all star caliber center? Will a "serviceable" center work if you can rebuild around a star 2/3 and star 4 (rather than a 5). Of course, now we may not have any healthy "stars" left. Second, in addition to youth and athleticism, should we look for durability in the next center? Am I the only one who is a little gun shy of Amarie due to his own knee problem? My understanding is that microfracture does not last long term, so at some point he may break down.
I am unsure if he still plays well at his age, but what about Brad Miller? I haven't heard much about him recently, so maybe he is crap now, if so then I'll pass on him. The only reason I mentioned him is because I believe we have to play Motion Offense with Yao and Mac gone from the lineup. Miller Fits that description. I'll tell you what's really sad? Brian Cook may actually fit us well if we have to play like that. I hate the thought of that.
Either Bosh or Amare is good if you paired one of them w/ Scola...but we can't attain one of them coz Scola may be involved...
