    It's Melton.

We draft guys and we never play them... they just sit on the bench year after year and then they disappear...
Other than Clint... how many guys have we drafted in the last 5 or 6 years that we ever developed?
I'm not down with this whole 'there are only 8 or 9 guys we trust to be on the floor' mentality... an injury or two and we're forced into a short rotation or we're signing guys that were 'just sitting on their couch at home' and putting them in the rotation (love GG just illustrating that we cant be wasting so many roster spots...)...
I realize that MDA has only been here a couple years and our failure to develop talent preceeded his tenure - but he's a prime example of not utilizing a third of the roster...
MDA has to get comfortable turning over playing time to develop players where we have a comfortable lead... Far too often we had starters in long after the game had pretty much been decided...

    Melton...

Hahaha. V-Span. Haven’t heard that one in a while. I think we still have Matt Maloney signed for 10 more years too.

As a Florida grad, I would love to see Wilbekin make the league, but he just isn't quick enough defensively or off the bounce, and his height hurts him against closeouts and on some switches. Paul is technically the backup one, MCW the third point, and Gordon your emergency one.

I was hoping for any point guard to shine during summer league. Then go to training camp, get some work done. Sit on the bench for the first month of the season, then head to the Valley to play some actual basketball. Then recall him when Chris Paul takes some games off.

Melton had a decent summer league...was a leader on the team, showed his defensive potential, and hit a few big 3s,

This year we have to take into consideration that CP3 may not play every playoff game, so I agree we do need to be more prepared than we were last year. I would love to see Melton develop in the Gleague, then bring him back to the roster mid season or so. But an additional playmaker would be the best Insurance.

Certainly the hopeful view, and what Houston is hoping for, but to an extent also what Milwaukee, Chicago and Charlotte were hoping for.

The obvious issue is that to make him acceptable on offense you need to basically tell him not to shoot...at all...

    Career:
    10-16: 35.3% FG
    16-<3PT: 31.1% FG
    3PT: 25.0%

Assist numbers are nice and fun, but you also have to look at the whole picture:

    Career:
    4.9 apg / 2.7 tpg

A PG who can't shoot, can't score efficiently, doesn't take care of the ball well, that's not a guy you want actually "running" much offense, you more want that as a guy who can just bring the ball down the court and get it to other guys, the "set-up" PG role. The only problem is that set up PG's are usually best if they are solid off-ball guys, that is they can bring the ball down, get it to the right guys, then they are able to spot up and space the floor.

So it's going to be interesting to see how the team tries to really fit him in, he's one of those guys who sort of has a variety of skills, but is basically not refined in anything, including decision making, so he becomes hard to leave on the court. The guys whole off-season should be focused on trying to become at least an 80% 3PT shooter in game speed shots in an open gym, but he was an old rookie already, he's going to year 6 and will be 27 years old, and it hasn't happened, so there's no predicting anything like that to actually happen but it's also not impossible.

He has the length for defense, so its basically all about minimizing the damage he does on offense.

    James harden

Quit looking at euro options. If he was good enough , hed be in the nba.

If you are cut by the sixers before preseason, you arent worth a damn

rockets have mda, harden, and paul with plenty of guard depth. dont worry about a 'corey joeseph/patty mills' type perfect backup pg.

Idk we never needed a back up PG the way our system works either Paul or Harden is on the floor at all times. Gordon is not a PG but a capable ball handler and surprising passer when he has to be.

Melton I would assume might be just for devolpment purposes and defense

Morey did mention this year he wanted to give our young guys more PT

This was fine until Chris Paul went down with injury in the playoffs. We desperately needed a decent backup PG. Harden and Gordon were being run to the ground.

We have the rookie of the year MCW! Look out Golden State! He's about to show the world he's on Bobby Browns level!
