I understand the general "shameless" comment and feeling. And it does seem a little greedy, right.

But even without a price hike, they'd still be profiting off of her death. the number of albums sold jumped dramatically. Understanding it's a business, and that Sony Music is in it to profit, I don't think it's a huge deal.

Frankly, if my estate/heirs were sharing in some % based formula of the bump, I'd be ecstatic (if I still could be...??) if that happened after my death...

There are a ton of MJ related albums, performances, etc. that all are profiting off of his death.

Nothing particularly offensive about this. They're recouping an investment, we're looking for something to listen to on the Soloflex, equally selfish and indulgent acts.

Patrick Bateman does have good taste in music, I like all of his CDs.
Huey Lewis, Whitney, and Phil Collins.

That's the thing about anybody who does a Whitney Houston song. It will always sound second rate... With the sole exception of the Asian dude with the bowl cut.

I actually disagree. I'm a musician and I've listened to a few Hudson performances. Her vocal range definitely rivals Whitney's. What's different about her is that she doesn't sing with the same power/sharpness of tone that Whitney had - her voice has a lighter texture to it, if you will. That's what I meant by they have different types of voices. Whitney does have more vocal control though, something that IS lost on many singers today who think vocal prowess is only about how many arpeggios you can fit into a bar (looking at you, Beyonce).

And you are reading way too much into that performance. She was obviously emotional (clearly holding back tears) and was less than well prepared -- which also explains the brevity of the performance. That wasn't even close to reaching her capabilities. And don't get me wrong, I think Whitney Houston as a singer was still a cut above Jennifer Hudson. But you are selling her way short.

One of the things I have learned via Facebook since Saturday afternoon: it is impossible to be sad about Whitney Houston dying AND soldiers in Iraq or Afghanistan who have died. It has to be one or the other.

I remember the reality show with Bobby and Whitney as the stars. I was surprised then how much it seems like Whitney was more messed up than Bobby, more trashy, and stuff.

I had always thought Bobby was the bad influence on her, but it didn't seem like the case from that look at their life together.

    I'm sorry for her, RIP

Yeah, I saw that too, and it seems I've been seeing more and more of stuff like that.

I think Hudson was also fighting through emotion. Someone told me she was fighting back emotions even while she was preparing/rehearsing.

Great observation. For this very reason I think Ledisi (who was in the audience) would have been a better choice for the Houston tribute.
