You should be heartened by Jeff's Chronicle article then, Buck. Even though the GOP threw all their efforts into making this a partisan race, very, very few people voted that way. You can also take heart in the fact that this race was driven less by race than those in the past. Houstonians found in White what Bush said he'd be for America -- a uniter, not a divider. A can-do guy whose appeal reaches across party and ethnic lines to, as his literature says, 'get Houston moving again.' If you dislike partisan politics, today's a good day. Partisan efforts failed and qualifications won.
My parents actually knew Rob Mosbacher personally through some program my father was once involved in, I think they maybe even did an outward bound thing once, and though they never ever ever vote republican ever, they really liked him and voted for him in every election he ran for. By their account, he really is a nice guy. Sanchez I have nothing good to say about and neither do they.
Yeah, I know... I'm a little more of a moderate when it comes to local politics vs. national politics, actually. That's why I voted for Turner.
Jeff, I can't send you an e-mail through the site, so I'll have to ask in this forum. Would you be interested in sitting down and talking about my 2005 campaign? There is plenty of time to meet and get involved. This invitation goes to anyone else who might want to get involved.
I'm so glad it's Sanchez in the runoff instead of Turner. Turner sold out to Craddick, Perry and friends... turning his back on his own party and his district (imo!) during our recent multi-session, multimillion dollar fiasco in Austin. He got just what he wanted. A district to run in for Congress if he lost this election. Watch him do it.
