The signal you are getting from the service provider is 60Hz. 60Hz x 4 = 240Hz this means if you TV runs at 240Hz you can easily convert to 240. However films, in the theater have run at 24fps (Hz) for a long time. Blu-ray has that ability to go at 24Hz to simulate a film. If your TV runs at 60Hz or 120Hz it cannot take advantage of this. Thus 240Hz is the least common multiple where you can easily view 60Hz (regular TV content) and 24Hz (blu-ray content). I believe you that changing your setting on the TV changes the picture, but it has little to do with the refresh rate which is already too high for your brain to see as it is.
I just pulled a trigger on a 50inch Panasonic Plasma G25. I thought about getting a Vizio (240hz LED) TV. Vizio uses local dimming instead of edge lit. However, I read the reviews and it has many issues. I've owned a Sony TV for along time, the quality is top notch, so if it were those two, i'd pick Sony. But for a cheap bedroom tv, Vizio is just fine. I have one.
the new samsung tvs allow you to adjust Judder and Blur. What you see (jitter) is Judder. You should set the Judder low, if it's too high, then your movies look like reality shows. Crank up the Blur, which is what is the main problem with LCDs. check out this thread: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1142386
I was going to get this tv too, but .. http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1131464&page=30 too much input lag scared me away
ok so my samsung 6500 was dob and will return it to amazon. I'm deciding between the g25 and the samsung 550 all are now sub $1,000. Is the picture quality on the pannasonic really that much nicer. I've always been biased towards samsung but don't mind making the switch if in getting a better bang for my bucks. Also, are the rising blacks that bad on the set? TIA I need to order asap as I do not have a tv for football.
