The Hornets. That team keeps relocating anyway and since New Orleans is unstable, it would be a perfect fit in Seattle. Also, the Hornets would move out of the division in place of the Thunder.
What *should* have happened: Stern brokers deal to keep Hornets in Charlotte, facilitating team sale to local ownership (current Bobcats ownership group) Stern awards new franchise to Shinn in New Orleans (or OKC) Franchise permanently locates in OKC post-Katrina Sonics stay in Seattle Kings relocate to Las Vegas With things as they are: Move Grizzlies to Seattle. It's not even close. They are already trying to sell the team, they've been pathetic in terms of maintaining local support/attendance, and they're close to equivalent to the Sonics roster that left. An hour away...but I feel like you have some sort of inside joke with the italics that I don't get. Care to explain?
Initially, it was faster to type the Italic attribute than to confirm the spelling of his last name. Eventually, I looked it up and it was what I had thought. I already knew that LSU is in Baton Rouge and the relative distance away from New Orleans. A little less than the distance between College Station and Houston. Back to the New Orleans -- Pistol Pete discussion.......... Pistol Pete was born in Aliquippa, Pa and played some high school basketball in North Carolina before landing at LSU (Baton Rouge). Any claims that New Orleans produced Pistol Pete don't ring true with me. Pete Maravich Biography Oscar Robertson is considered to have been an outstanding basketball player and went to the University of Cincinnati. Oscar Robertson Biography Just because a notable basketball player played at a University in a city (Oscar Robertson -- Cincinnati) or somewhat near a city (Pistol Pete -- Baton Rouge) doesn't mean that the city deserves a NBA team.
I beg to differ... As long as CP3 runs that team, people will keep coming. Give them time. http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=3566194
The Grizzlies as I am sure the name actually fits the area. Plenty of bears in the woods over there I bet.
Seattle kept the rights to "Supersonics" though. If the Grizzlies moved there, it would be interesting to see if they reverted to the city's old name or kept Memphis/Vancouver's.
yeah, you're right.I had forgotten about the Sonics name for the moment. It would be the right thing for them to do and keep the Sonics name.As a Houston resident I know how it feels to get a name change for one of your city's franchises.
That would be really funny if it did happen. Leaving Vancouver to Memphis and then landing up back in Seattle. I wonder if any of their original fans would want to move to Seattle or would purposely avoid them.
I wouldn't move to Seattle...but I'd be more inclined to drive a few hours for 5 games a year than I was with the Sonics. My family had Grizzlies season tickets every year they were in Vancouver.
Keep Dallas and keep Jazz! I despise them but having them just makes the season that much more interesting. Memphis, L.A. Clippers, and Charlotte would be my choices.
The 1st question about a future NBA team in Seattle is: if Seattle will spend 150 millions in the renovation of Key Arena. If Seattle says no, then there will be no team in Seattle. The support for a NBA team in Seattle is less than 30%. So, good luck!
