they don't have cap space either. remember they have the malcontents miles and randolph. further yao and t-mac are what roy and oden can hope to be.

That Portland team in 4 years will be better than the rockets next year. Oden looks like a Amare type player, Aldrige can be that big athletic 4 that can help Oden dominate. If Durant becomes an All-Star with Roy then I think they will be one of the tops in the league.

Yep. But beware you will be called stupid, spastic, crack-head and worse for suggesting it.

I agree with you bro. I like our chances of winning NOW (upcoming season). Definitely Portland have a bright future ahead of them.. I can't help but think that management will find a way to screw it up for them though. The last time they were a force in the West was when they had Adelman and Clyde... and that's been well over a decade. It'll be interesting to see how those young core of guys play together. Oden 1st pick for the win!

That's what I was thinking. They're not in a much different position than the Rockets were when we had a promising young crew with Francis, Mobley, etc, and lucked into the #1. They still have a lot of work to do before they can parlay the #1 pick into a championship-caliber team. The Rockets have been chipping at it for several years now. We're closer to succeeding than Portland is, currently.

Though, I have to say it is pretty exciting to be a fan of a team with a load of potential and you can daydream about the 98-win seasons waiting for you in a couple of years. Oden and Durant might be great players, but they likely won't be the greatest players the league's ever seen. Eventually, fans will see their ceilings and can settle into a more normal expectation -- like we have for the Rockets now.

roy mighn't be so dependable. he's had two major knee surgeries and missed something like a 20 game stretch with the same knee problem that flared up again at the tail end of the season.

how aldridge turns out is still up in the air.

oden would give them someone to build around.

i think in terms of franchise success there'll be in between the hawks and bulls unless they add a couple of established starters to the team.

Roy's on his rookie deal. Yao and Tmac are stuck on max deals.

The grass always looks greener on the other side doesn't it? Portland does have the "potential" to be a very very good team but as we should all know
"potential" doesn't always translate into wins.

The Rockets are a sure playoff lock now. With a new coach + offense, we should be making noise in next years playoffs again.

Everytime a draft comes along, players get hyped and overvalued. There are many players drafted in the top 10, who people figured to be superstars, and didn't turn out that way. Injuries happen (remember Sampson).

We are all shook up, because Utah just flat out beat us. We saw that we didn't have the personnel to contend. But, the championship will probably be between San Antonio and Utah. We were very close.

We need another PG and PF, some depth, some leaders, TMac to continue to step up, Yao to dominate, and the owner not dispirit the team behind the scenes with rumors, so he could sabatauge and justify changing coaches. This team was good enough to win against the Jazz. I still believe something happened to dispirit them, because they just didn't show up. I don't kno w for sure it was on purpose by Les, but the rumors were going on behind the scenes during the playoffs, and that's BAD TASTE. Hopefully, Rick can instill in this team the heart of a champion, so they go all the way.

But, I'd always rather have the guys who have made it, than the ones you hope. We've already got 2 superstars. We're not far away ... but, Morey needs to get us more, or we won't get there with the 2 superstars we have.

lol Yao and Tracy have only proven themselves to perennial first round losers in the playoffs. Yao has proven he can be neturalized by a scrub defender. TMac's superstardom is a thing of the past. I can't believe someone would still think they're superstars. Even Dirk has done more in the playoffs!

Portland's only got the No.1 pick. They can't have both Oden and Durant.

i would rather be in ours.... Aldridge has heart problems, and randolph will have to leave cuz they will have to pay oden and roy max money. Too much can happen in the next 2-5 years, its all speculation. If portland drafter deron williams instead of martel webster, then they would be ridiculous scary in a couple years

no doubt. as frustrating as it could be watching the steve/cat show and ultimately the flame out of griffin, i has a TON of fun watching them grow and hoping that they figured it out. part of that was being able to follow the team with the clutchcity bbs, but nonetheless it was good times.

i still have a lot of confidence in this team, and particularly yao.

Rockets, no question. Bird in the hand.

Speaking of Bird, I hear this Len Bias kid is gonna some kind of superstar.

Who would you rather draft with the number one pick? Yao or Jay Williams? Yao really might turn out to be something big, but this Jay Williams kid is a sure thing.

I think it's just a question of era's, and Portland's situation seems to be perfect, especially in a timing sense.

If Portland becomes what we expect them to become, they may very well be in prime position to succeed simply because the Spurs will be very old or rebuilding, Nash will be very old or may have retired and Dallas will still be soft.

A shift in the Western dynamic is approaching and Portland seems primed to reap the benefits.

Yes, but what do you have then? One superstar with enough role players to contend? Getting harder and harder to do each year.

I'd take a healthy T Mac as the superstar, but it better be a hell of a trade for Yao.
