The other fight video showed me something that we have been seeing for years. Shaq just pushs Tracy to the floor then barely touches Yao and he falls on the floor. That's how easily the Yao/T-Mac combo goes down.
I had a real problem with this when I first watched it 2 years ago and all the subsequent views. Frankly it made us look like b****es. Scola was taking on every Laker and not one Rocket was around him defending him. Scola got in Odumb's face and Walton immediately got in Scola's. Then Scola takes a cheap shot from Fish because of the last play! Fish is still handing out justice from a play that accrued 2 minutes ago! Scola was on the floor and no one even walked toward Fish. They were pleading with the refs... If Skip was still on the team (I'm very happy with Lowry) he would have started a riot. I was very disappointed with our guys on that play. I know we were young but when your teammate is getting roughed up like that someone needs to let it be known that won't fly. I really hate this video and cringe every time I see it. Not because of Scola but because of our reaction when Scola was getting assaulted. Every single time he had to defend himself while we were pulling him away. /rant
I agree with everything you said. We should have reacted better as a team. The other four players on the floor looked shocked that Fisher did that and look as if they couldn't move because their sitting up saying in their heads "This crap is unbelievable" instead of putting a fist or elbow in Fisher's face.
the only thing less classy than Fisher's cheap hit, was Doug Collins talking about how tough Fisher was to dish out that cheap shot. i'm impressed with Scola that he kept his composure, because i think it would have been acceptable for him to loose it on Fisher. totally classless by Fisher. i so wish we would have won that series.
Rewatching the Phoenix scuffle, interesting to note that the two Rockets who got into the fight are both gone. TMac and Alston. (Also note how intensely Scola corrals McGrady. TMac doesn't seem so happy). And I agree with what was stated above, that it would have been nice to see something more out of the other Rockets in the Lakers game, than just pointing and staring at the officials. I think we take the Lakers down this year. Book it.
Well, this team doesn't have a lot of tough-confrontational players on the current roster. Most of the Rox players tend to come off as nice guys (which is cool-good people). But I agree on the part of needing to have your teammates stick up for you. In the recent-ish past (not going to far back here on purpose), only a handful of guys I would consider stand up types. *Artest-Child Please. *Francis-Cocky as a mother...but didn't back down from people. Stuck up for Yao on a couple of occasions. *Skip-Dude's from Queens  , not that he is a tough guy necessarily....but like you said. I can recall him sticking up for Tracy a couple of times....as well as himself. -Of course there are others I could think of that have a tougher rep., but didn't mention because they weren't key players for the team.
This is the real fight: <object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/TLztLLPjyjY?fs=1&hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/TLztLLPjyjY?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>
In addition, we all know how most feel about Tracy, but love how he is one of the first to step into the fight. And I love the look on Alvin Gentry's face, reminds of the guy at the end of Boondock Saints who says "Ok, I'm ready to get busy too. You know, I'm ready to get busy."
Usually Doug Collins is a good commentator... but DAMN HE IS A SUCK UP to the Lakers. WTF was that!? Fisher is a very dirty players and this guy "respects" him? gatdamn...

It was that not one Rocket came to to Scola's defense, all they did was point their fingers especially Lowry. He was the closes one and didn't do crap but point. Even Rondo backs up his teammates, even if Ron did flop. <object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/3MhacGmo9UU?fs=1&hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/3MhacGmo9UU?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>
The Scola Lakers fight pissed me off more because it had huge implications on our playoff hopes. Brooks was schooling Fisher the whole series and if Fisher hadn't been suspended for the next game, Brooks would have eaten him alive and we probably would have won that series. Fisher's suspension cost us a win. Even when the Lakers get punished, they still get rewarded!
Aaron never gets involved, if anything he actually walks away. I guess i can understand why, but i'd look for him to try a little harder. He doesnt have to push people or get in between then, but he just seems afraid to even be within 3 feet. Scola is always the first to restrain guys. I think he wasnt "helped" against LA because the team saw it was scola, who's the calmest guy ever and they knew he'd hold back, not to mention he was on the court with the other calmest guys on the team, except for ron, who was on a short leash. Also, the refs were already looking to throw guys out after the first issue with scola/walton....at this point they have quick whitles and are more likely to throw guys out for almost nothing. Pointless to get thrown out just to act like a tough guy. I agree about collins though...yes fisher is a tough player, but this was a cheap shot and there's not point in praising him so much for it. That being said, the suns was most intense. The atmosphere was more intense in LA, but the actual fight was more heated in Phoenix. Nash, tmac, barnes, and rafer were all ready to throw punches, if only they hadnt been restrained.
Unless your talking about something else my bad, but that time Scola got decked by Fisher he wasn't that close when it happened. Lowry was.
When something completely unexpected like this happens (on the court or anywhere else), one's immediate reaction is based on instincts not thought. Sure, after that you can remember about who it is or what's the situation with fouls or what's at stake. But nobody was about to go after Fisher the moment it happened. ...No surprise really, seeing who was on the floor. Anyway, I can't vote. Neither is a fight.
Actually i saw in the suns video and it reminded me of other times i've seen him do it during "fights" If you're on the streets on a random night, then i'd agree. But this is a professional basketball team that was in the middle of a very important game in a very important series. They just had an altercation, just seconds ago, so they had to have had that on their minds. No stupid fouls/techs. That's pretty much a given in these situations, they know the refs are just drooling to throw someone out now and even a frown will get it done. It's also safe to say they probably were warned or told not to by Adelman, either earlier in the game or the series. It wasnt just the rockets either, even the Lakers didnt react to it much. Fisher walked away, scola did as well after he got up. I think they all knew it was excessive, but that it was basketball related, not personal, and it ended as soon as it started.
LOL Same situation in both games. Fisher is glorified by the announcers in one and Barnes has the opposite reaction from the announcers in the suns game. HAHA Doug Collins doesn't know what a cheapshot is. Tough? Since when was throwing an elbow at someone when they're not expecting it, tough? No wonder he coached the greatest player of all time and never won a ring with him and why he's in and out of jobs like an outta work pornstar.
