Every trade comes with risk. Trading Francis would as well. I would love to get a 1st and Jeri Welsch.

Chris Mihm is not starter material but could back up both big man spots. Having him could give us enough in the front court to trade Cato if we wanted.

Trading Cato and Mills expiring contract could free up some considerable money and even make us a player in the Free Agent market next year. Couple that with us having two 1st round picks and we might have some tools to help secure some talent

Ooooh, you stole my line. I was going to add something about returning to pinstripes, too.

    I agree with GATER.

This is the way the team will look all season. No major trades will happen unless some team is dying to give us a good pf or great sf for scraps(mobes+), and the likelyhood of that is nil.

The offseason may be a different story though, depending on how the this season goes.

Rockets' Cuttino Mobley for Al Harrington of the Pacers.

Play Jackson at the PG spot on offense, SG on defense. Play Francis SG on offense and PG on defense. Harrington is the SF and can also play PF. Francis, Harrington and Yao would be the scorers, Jackson and Cato are the role players.

Pacers have Bender, and Croshere at SF so they are stacked there and can affford to lose Harrington. They dont have a good backup guard for Reggie Miller. And Miller wont be there forever. Mobley would bring a dynamic to the Pacers that they dont have at the guard spot and would be a good 6th man.

With Mobley gone and Francis playing the 2 on offense his PPG would rise drmatically since he will be playing to his "strengths" which is scoring and not playing his weaknesses which is setting up teammates. More points, less turnovers.

Harrington would finally give the Rockets a solid forward that can score and defend to keep teams honest and would bring us much of what we eventually wanted from Griffin (sans the shot blocking). Perhaps this would lessen the sting of Griffin not panning out?

We would still be lacking a solid all around PF (Cato defense only, Mo offense only) but Harrington can play there and that would help. In the upcoming offseason we can address the PF spot more thoroughly. I dont think we can address all of our weaknesses on ONE trade. It is going to take a few moves.

But getting Harrington, moving Francis to the 2 on offense would dramatically improve the offensive output of this team and if the team continues to play good "team defense" we shouldn't give up much there.

    This is a start.

I like that. Pretty good scenario/idea.

    Can Harrington shoot?

I would like JONeal and Ron Artest. :p

But yes..I think Steve should be the 2 on offense and guard any guard on defense..like Allen Iverson. Jackson can be like Aaron McKie or Eric Snow. Our perimeter defense would be a little worse...but not affected too much.

    Al Harrington - 6' 9" 250lbs
    12.8ppg, 7rpg, 2.2apg, 44%FG, 23% 3FG, 77%FT, 31MPG

Harrington is Pacer's 6th man. He is only 23 years old.

He is not much of a 3pt shooter, which MIGHT be a problem on this team playing the 3 spot, but he has some nice post moves and a pretty good jump shot. And he plays decent defense.

I like your idea Duece, but I think it would be better if they threw in Tinsley. Maybe he could be groomed into our PG.

I hope ALL OF THEM will be in another uniform. I hate those SILK PEPPERMINT PAJAMAS.

    But, seriously, folks...

Is the question on the name of the thread the same as the question on the poll?

WHat if griffin, after being released, is just picked up by another team? That didn't mean he was traded.

Anyway, I hope none of them get traded, but if I had to pick ONE, it would be OTHER.

Expanding on the Pacer/Rockets trade idea...How about this deal...

Al Harrington, Jamaal Tinsley, Scot Pollard
    for
Cuttino Mobley, Kelvin Cato and Moochie Norris.

Add in a 2nd rounder to balance out the trade either way.

The Pacers do this because they have a glut of SFs in Bender and Croshere and can afford to let Harrington go. Pollard AND Tinsley aren't getting ANY rotation time on the team (are they a big loss to them?). The Pacers get in return Mobley who can be a 6th man and add a dimension that they dont have at the guard spot and a replacement for Miller as he winds down. They get Cato, a much stronger defensive presence than Jeff Foster or Scot Pollard and Moochie who can be their 3rd PG and replace Tinsley.

The Rockets make the deal to get a quality forward in Harrington who can play the 3 and the 4. Jamaal Tinsley can either be the starer with Francis at the 2 OR Francis can still be the 1 and JJ at the 2 with Tinsley as the PG off of the bench. And then Pollard can be the backup C and PF. Pollard is a tough smart scrappy player (seems like a JVG type of player). Playing for the Kings he knows how a good motion offense should work. He might even have some synergy with JJ. He is an energy player, the kind of player that you want coming off the bench.

I am not sure how the salaries work out on this one. And I am not sure how interested Indiana would be to make this big of a trade considering they are playing well right now. Talent wise it is pretty even and from the Rockets perspective it addresses a lot of needs.

    Thoughts?

    Deuce -
It works capwise w/o Moochie. Personally, I doubt Indy does it.

IMHO, if the Rox put your deal on the table Bird and Carlisle would fire back Croshere, Harrington, Tinsley, picks and you keep Moochie for Cat and Cato. It probably doesn't work in RealGm, but basically you trade Cato for Croshere and then get Harrington and Tinsley for Cat and $1.4m of the TE.

I think the trade is risky in the extent it places a lot of its success in how well Harrington plays SF in the WC. It better be the right decision because you're radically changing court presence and chemistry. It also creates a logjam at PG.

I voted other, representing Steve Francis. Hopefully we can get a good 4 or swingman for him (Brand, Allen, etc.)

I voted other (Steve Francis) mostly because we need large scale changes and Steve is the biggest name we have.

    Here's my trade.

Steve Francis and Mo Taylor or Cato

    for

Antonio Davis, Kirk Hinrich, and Jay Williams

AD is a big contract and is way overpaid but his contract ends in 2 years. He can man the post next to Yao and in place of Yao better than who we have now.

Kirk Hinrich is going to be a star.

Jay Williams is a throw in and may never play again, you could put Marcus Fizer in here and the trade still works money wise. I like the posibility that Jay Will might come back and be all he can be.
