Exactly. This is a no-brainer. And I'd expect Portland to come back and ask for Luther Head. Then you stutter and stammer alot on the outside and coyly chuckle on the inside as you draw a deep breath and say..."welllllllllllllllllllllll.......OK". I know Luther Head is (after Yao and Tmac) everyone's new favorite Rocket. But with an addition like Brandon Roy, Darius Miles' ability to move McGrady to SG for certain matchups, the ability to bring back Bogans and the possibility of a Mike James signing where he'll play some SG....there is no easy PT for Luther Head. The beauty of a Roy-Miles-James addition is that it gives the Rockets excellent transition players and creates many matchup possibilities when Yao is tired, in foul trouble, or just not having a good game. For example, Stro at C with Miles, TMac, Roy and James. Stro and Hayes with Miles, TMac and James. Stro, Miles, TMac, James and Alston. Here's a nice unit for when McGrady needs a break...Yao, Hayes, Miles, Roy and James. In one summer, you've added a starter and two solid rotational players.
I voted for the Portland deal, but if I could be guaranteed that Redick would be there at the #12 pick, I would probably go for that one instead. None of the top guys really blow me away (there is no Yao/James/Duncan in this draft, and if there was he wouldn't fall to #4) and I really think Redick would be the perfect complement to Yao and the Rox would pick up another player at 15 to help with our atrocious depth. I don't think he will fall to #12 though, so I hope either they do the Portland deal or just pick Redick at 8.
I really like the portland trade, but I also think J.R. could really show his potential in Houston so I think that would work out also.
It won't be a predraft trade. It will be during the draft, if Roy is at 4 or 6, the Rox will deal. If he's not, no deal. It would be stupid to trade for the 6th pick before the draft because Thomas might be the odd man out at #6. Do we take him? Hell no. It's a 6 player draft at the top, and do we really want to be stuck with the guy we don't need?
I went with the NO trade, but like someone else mentioned would rather substitute Swift for Head. At 12 & 15, we could pick 2 of the following: Brewer, Redick, Carney, Sefolosha, Rondo or going big Simmons, Armstrong, A.Johnson, Sene. At 32 we could get Novak.
This is my favorite scenario too and its believable since the Hawks could still get their man in Shelden Williams at 8 probably.
Bingo. i voted for the portland trade as well. miles really turned me off that last game against portland when he was clearly loafing it and bill worrell was calling him out. he's not that bad though and i think part of it was his backlash against mcmillan. i don't love the idea of a player who will just quit at anytime but i will take the risk that he will bring it as a rocket. i'd possibly do jho for miles straight up right now so adding the 8 for the 4 is a no-brainer.
I'd give up Luther for #6 if that can bring in Roy. I'd also give up Luther and Stro if that could guarantee Morrison with the #2.
Here's the problem: Miles is such a negative that Portland is willing to give up the #4 spot in the draft for #8, AND take on JHo, just to get rid of him. What are WE going to have to give up to get rid of him in a year? At least with the Minny deal, we don't have to take back another horrible contract.
i don't understand y everyone wants to move up and pick up 1 player, i rather move down get jr smith, and another 2 good prospects....u gotta think the long run, 3 guns that young combined with tmac and yao could be a solid rotation...
There's a chance if the Rockets do trade down they'll be looking at Ager, Shawne Williams, Thabo Sefolosha instead of Brewer, Carney, or Redick.
