fisher?!! the only components (of the lakers squad) i would want are shaq or kobe or payton. but i have lost repect for payton b/c of his move to l.a.
I'm glad some of you guys are wanting Carlos Arroyo. His stock has risen in the last couple days. I'd take him over both Snow and Fisher. But not over Hinrich or Nash
If I had my druthers hair canada would be Houston bound. Van Gundy can improve anyone's defense, and the fast break would be a hell of a lot of fun to watch. Highly unlikely though.
I don't understand why Jones hasn't gotten more consideration in this thread. As pointed out by DS, he had his best year last year in Milwaukee. But he is no one year wonder, having a career 3.3/1 Assist/Turnover ratio, best of all the guards being discussed. Career 1.11 PPS. Career 36% 3 point shooter. Would probably love to return to his hometown (Galveston), and would probably not be too expensive. Can anyone who has watched much of him comment on his defense and his floor leadership?
Why do people always say, "Hey, he didn't win a championship. That means that he sucks." Ok, you didn't say that. But that seems like what you are implying... Come on guys! It's not about one player. You have to look at the team that player was on too. I never thought that the Sixers had the depth to realistically challenge for a title. Especially vs the Lakers. McKie, Iverson and Snow were their back-court players. A lot of the responsibility was on Snow's shoulders to score. Too much, IMO (Anyone remember Snow's buzzer beater over Kobe in the Finals?). Snow isn't the type of player rely on to score. No. He's more of a PG that can shoot the mid-range jumper and get others involved. I'm not saying that we don't need shooters. Sure we do. But I think we are taking Snow's play out of context. Hey! Check out this guys stats....are you going to tell me that you can judge C. Billups on stats alone? Make sure you check out his play-off stats too! http://www.nba.com/playerfile/chauncey_billups/index.html?nav=page Billups won because he had the right amount of talent around him to let him succeed. Snow never had that. But he would here in Houston. Let put this in perspective. I mean, honestly. Do you really think that Fisher's stats wouldn't have suffered in Philly if they had a back-court of Fisher, Iverson and Mckie?
Simple answer to this post...... Derek Fisher is the PG to go with this team. He is the JVG type of pg. Passes well and first, knocks down the open 3. Not to mention the playoff expeirience (.4 seconds.......seriously, that was absurd). What a great compliment off a Yao or T-Mac double team. And lets stop with the Brent Barry fetish. Seriously, he is not a PG. Sure he likes to pass. Sure, he hits the 3. And sure, he won the dunk contest as a bag of bones in his Clip-joint warm ups. But he is NOT a pg. D-Fish is our guy. That is why he opted out: to start at PG for a contender. Think Tyrone Lue is a starter?? I think I'll pass on that one.
heres what we do. we deal with what we've got for this year, maybe sign someone to a one year deal like charlie ward or something, and then do whatever it takes to get john lucas in next years draft! we'll be set foreeeever.
Dear God: Would you please bless us today with a gift of Kirk Heinrich and Antoine Davis in exchange for our trade exception and one of our players not including Yao or TMac? Please God?
Derek Fisher would be a great fit for the Rockets. I wish there was more of an urgency from the fans here to want him rather than Barry. Fisher, like Barry, hits a lot of his jumpers, but what puts him over the top is his on the ball defense against the opposing point guards. Fish is a big time role player, and I think he could add 5-7 wins to the team if he was added to our current roster.
RIET, my man, What is so wrong about Fisher's game? He can shoot the rock, play great defense. He's a team player. He's a decent clutch performer, and he truly cares about winning games and championships. Sounds like a nice combination to me.
Only saw 6 Bucks games last year (sad, considering I was in the town most of the time). Jones is alright. He's got good size, he's an alright shooter. Defense is pretty average. My knocks on him: he's really not a floor general type. He's a bit more sluggish than you would think a guy his size would be, and he's a little too ready to fire that three. Consider this: Arroyo: 28 mpg, 1.6 threes attempted per game Fisher: 22 mpg, 2.2 threes attempted per game D. Jones: 25 mpg, 3.3 threes attempted per game Over half his shots were threes (not even Fisher did that). And that's on a Bucks team with some good outside shooters: Redd, E. Strickland, Kukoc, Van Horn. Hey, maybe it's a good thing that he's content to essentially be a short shooting guard out on the floor who sits on the perimeter and shoots threes. However, I want just a bit more out of my starting point, and I don't want D. Jones taking foolish threes when Yao and McGrady can get us better shots.
Below is a piece from a Marc Stein column: San Antonio's top priority is retaining Ginobili, but the Spurs also plan to survey Bryant to see whether he has any interest in playing alongside Tim Duncan instead of O'Neal. Seattle's versatile Brent Barry is another free agent who interests the Spurs, but Houston could have an edge landing Barry after acquiring Tracy McGrady on Tuesday. Barry and McGrady share Arn Tellem as an agent. I wouldn't mind seeing Barry play as PG but neither would I mind seeing Fisher. Either one would stabilize the rockets PG position. Although Barry isn't a pure PG...
Well, I'm not RIET, but I'll post my concerns. 1) Career .397 FG% (shot .352 last year) 2) Shot .291 from 3-point range last year 3) Career 3.0 APG 4) .766 FT% (a PG should be at 80% or greater, IMO) 5) Couldn't beat out Brian Shaw
Brian Shaw started 30 games out of the 284 games he played for the Lakers. He averaged 16.24 minutes. Derek Fisher averaged 29.26 minutes per game over 250 games during that same 4 year span. Let's get serious people. Derek Fisher was the starter in 60% of those games and got all the crunch time minutes, a la Sam Cassell for the Rockets. Brian Shaw was a small time role player for the Lakers. Derek Fisher was big time, key role player for the Lakers. Snow had the right amount of talent in Seattle, but he didn't exactly get off the bench. We all agree Snow can't hit an NBA 3. But the thing is, he is not a consistent mid range shooter. The guy is not what we need. Sure he can pass and defend. But he has no offense whatsoever. He's like having Kelvin Cato with different non-offensive attributes at the Point. Just like when we play the Sixers now, we abandon Snow and cut the lanes off for Iverson. Same thing is going to happen in Houston with Snow at the point. Just think about it from a Rocket fan's perspective. When we played the Sixers all these years with Snow, do we as fans ever worry about Snow beating us. Hell NO! I'll take that match up all day every day with Mobley and Francis exposing him for what he is. When we match up with the Lakers, do we worry about Fisher beating us. Hell yes! He's made a lot of big plays to beat us. That's what it boils down to. Just say no to Snow. Once again look at his career playoff numbers and notice how his key stats drop across the board. This is not a guy that steps up with pressure. Give me a Derek Fisher over this guy any day.
I agree, D. Fisher is a scrub. We complained about SF's bad shooting - DF can't shoot, few assists, can't rebound, has little defense. Whats not to like??? The DF lovers here must be seeing beyond his performance and somehow envisioning something other than a scrub? Why??
Doesn't every opponent PG turn into an all-star against the lakers ??? Why do people say Fisher play good defence ? Plus I guess some people didn't watch much laker games in the regular season. Fisher really sucked a lot.
