Because we need a superstar. Howard is obviously a superstar and Drummond has the freakish size/athleticism combination to potentially be one. Jefferson or Kanter don't have that kind of upside. While they are good talents they don't solve your problem, they are just more of what we already have.

I'm sure if there are other superstars or players with superstar potential that are available then we'll likely make a play for them too. The problem is that there's only a handful of true superstars in the entire league and they generally aren't available very often.

 

If we stay where we are, I am intrigued by Ross at the 2, and I also like Lamb at the 2. For bigs at that point, for a 5 Leonard or Melo, and take a flyer on Perry Jones at the 4 and hope McHale can light his fire.
