    ^^^ This

We would 3 peat. Maybe the first year (2013-2014) go to the finals and lose but after that we would own the league.

... and to think if the Clippers didn't get Doc Rivers we would have been able to trade for him and/or sign him outright. CP3 threatened to leave the Clippers if they didn't get Doc, stupid Boston!

    CP3/Bev
    JH/Cheap FA
Parsons(Still 2 years left on cheap contract)/Another cheap FA
Jones or Dmo (We would have to trade one of them or both to be under the salary cap)
    D12/Greg Smith

Well since "star" is such a loose term... Aaron Afflalo, Mike Conley, or Kyle Lowry. We need some of our salary to go to the bench.

Thread only includes perimeter stars. I started it because I saw a bunch of "Melo? DO NOT WANT" or "Rondo is NOT going to work in Houston!" posts in the trade rumors thread.

I personally think there are a BUNCH of perimeter, currently ball-dominant perimeter players that can work very well with Harden. Just because the Rockets tend to play better when Lin and Harden alternate time on the floor doesn't mean getting Rondo or Melo would lead to the same ball sharing problems.

Agree. Personally thought Lowry and Afflalo should've been all-stars this year.

But would Afflalo play SF for us? He's kind of like an undersized Paul George imo.

Honestly, adding any of those guys to the team we have would make us basically on the Heat's level.

I think a more interesting question is: "Who is the WORST perimeter star you can add to the Rockets that would still make them a championship contender?"

Honestly I think somebody as "meh" as Rudy Gay would make us a contender with his athletic abilities.

So basically you're saying that we should ignore 12 of the past 24 championships?

In contrast, PG's have been the best player of 1 team in those 24 years (and I'm being kind counting Billups as the best player on the Pistons). Before that you have to go to Isaiah Thomas' two championships, then Magic Johnson who was 6'9. I don't even know if the 80's are applicable given how much the game has changed since then.

PG-led teams simply do not do well in the playoffs. How many finals appearances does Chris Paul have? Steve Nash? In fact, take those same 24 years. How many PG-led teams even made a Finals appearance? You're basically relegated to one by Jason Kidd on the Nets and one by Iverson on the Sixers. And I don't know if we should be counting those teams who came from an Eastern conference which was the weakest in history, even weaker than the current East.

I don't know why PG doesn't get respect in the NBA playoffs. My guess though is that it's because it's the deepest position in the NBA. It's hard to stand out when every team has at least a halfway decent PG. In contrast there are very few great centers and shooting guards. It's shocking; this might be the weakest time in NBA history for the SG position. But that's great for Houston since we now have the best one.

Obviously choosing any 1 of the 2 best players will leads to title favourites.
Having said that, can i have Paul George?

I'm only counting SG-led teams. Not teams that just happened to star or co-star an SG.

By my count, that's 6 with Jordan, 2 with Kobe, and 1 with Wade. And that's a total of 3 different players. If you count Kobe when he was playing with peak Shaq, then we'll have to count Parker in 2007 despite Duncan outperforming him the other portions of the playoffs. And then we'll have to add in Billups, Magic, Isiah.

To be frank, the game has changed a lot since the 90s as well when hand-checking and defense was much more prevalent. A flopping player like CP3 would've been snapped in half by Oakley on his next attack to the basket.

I'm not sure why your original first post mentioned Derek Fisher only when my original post was more catered towards ALL perimeter stars, ball dominant and otherwise - Durant/LeBron/George/CP3/Irving.

Yes, there are a slew of PGs in there, but there's also your SGs and SFs. My original point was that I do believe Harden CAN co-exist with other ball-dominant players despite our Lin/Harden lineup not having the most success here.

I'm not even arguing that the Rockets should be LED by a PG. So I'm willing to concede PG led teams won't win a chip (although a diff argument in itself), but I'm just trying to say adding Rondo to our team is NOT going to make us worse like so many have suggested on trade rumors.

Harden/Curry back-court would be pretty fun.

However the Durant/Harden pairing worked out pretty well the first time so if I had to pick, I think that's the one I'd go with.

But who are we kidding.... these pairing are a pipe dream. It would be like when we had Olajuwon back in the day and someone would say that Barkley and Pippen would be a good pairing with Hakeem... oh crap... wait. (MALONEY!!!!)

In pipe dream land, obviously LeBron since not only is he the best player in the league, he also is a plus defender at both forward spots unlike, say, Durant. Our offense is already ridiculous, and any of these guys would make us by far the best scoring team in the league... we just need to become a top 3 defensive team as well. On those grounds, it would have to be LBJ, or as much as I think he is overrated, Paul George.

    Nice list OP.

Personally I would love to have John Wall and Paul George. Imho Wall is a late bloomer but has the potential to become an underrated multiple all-star given that defence at the point guard position is not highly emphasised and he has the potential to be a great defender. His court vision is pretty good and has steadily improved every season, as is his 3 point shot which is rather credible right now. Plus that crazy athleticism of his.

Paul George is another player whom I think would benefit a lot from playing with Harden. Taking the ball out of George's hands is imperative as I see him less of a ball-dominant superstar and more of a rich man's iguodala, one who can do a bit of everything and play otherworldly defence, moving well without the ball and being an underrated passer to boot.

But, this is likely just a pipe dream given how highly their respective teams value them and they have both been signed to contract extensions recently (i think?).
