Pet Shop Boys were/are the best programmers/smartest lyric writers. Y'all just like the idea that there are guitar, bass and drums with New Order. Pet Shop Boys are also totally gay, so that probably skews things against them, but they did their thing well. They have very good remixes of classic (gay) disco, that introduce remix trends that show up for years later. "Go West" was brilliant, for the person that didn't get that. If they never record again, they will stay a good remix team.
i don't really think great lyric writers when i think of these three bands but i would be shocked if you could find me pet shop boys lyrics better than these: Your Silent Face A thought that never changes Remains a stupid lie It's never been quite the same No hearing or breathing No movement, no colors Just silence Rise and fall of shame A search that shall remain We asked you what you'd seen You said you didn't care Sound formed in a vacuum May seem a waste of time It's always been just the same No hearing or breathing No movement no lyrics Just nothing The sign that leads the way The path we can not take You've caught me at a bad time So why don't you piss off
New Order in a heartbeat. They've influenced way more music than Erasure or Pet Shop Boys. Plus, the whole Joy Division aspect. Joy Division had a huge influence as well. Although Bernard Sumner can't sing a note, their music & lyrics more than make up for is vocal (lack of) range. Still though, my all time favorites of the new wave/post modern/ genre have to be: The Smiths Depeche Mode Elvis Costello Talking Heads
My personal favorite-the one I enjoy to listen to the most and has more songs I enjoy-is Erasure. I couldn't care less if they were more or less influential than the other two. That has absolutely no bearing on whether or not I like an artist's songs. Drama! is one of my favorite songs of all-time.
New Order of the ones listed. But I don't think they are in the same league in this genre as the Cure as others have said.
I picked New Order. On another note I went to Erasure's concert at webster hall 6 months ago. Man, going to one of those concerts is amazing, you hear songs that make you go "they the ones who sang that?" The gay guys in the crowd (and there were a lot, in fact I think they were the majority) were getting pretty rowdy, cuz Andy stripped down to his underwear and had on angel wings. We went crazy when he finished off the concert with Oh La Mour. It was basically karaoke night since every single person knew the words to that song, though we did give him some respect (just a lil bit) and let him sing the beginning by himself. Good times. yes yes I know, Christians dont goto Erasure concerts.
haha so true. Some of the people I sued to work with had bands and they would always be hating on every single person who released an album that went gold. I think its professional jealousy =P
lol lets just say you had to be really secure in your masculinity to go watch an Erasure concert. You would not believe how many times I heard some guy screaming "guzzle it" at Andy everytime he opened his mouth wide
I agree with this 100%. Manny lost major music cred points with his lack of love for the Talking Heads.
