We can entice someone from the "A-list" if Yao is healthy. I don't doubt that. What I'm concerned about is whether the big fella is going to be healthy. Definitely a roll of the dice. I guess that's true in any scenario, but past history toughens the odds.

The rockets should really ask go for Billups and Rip, and we send the Pistons with Tmac and Rafael...

    Billups/Brooks/Francis
    Rip/Head/Barry
    Battier/Greene/Novak
    Scola/Hayes/Landry
    Yao/Deke/Dorsey

that's your Rockets 15-man roster right there, looks like a bit the same as the Pistons back in 04-05.... with upgrade version on Center Position

    Rodney Stuckey/Alston
    Tmac/Hunter/Juan Dixon
    Prince/Amir Johnson
    Wallace/Maxiell
    McDyess/Ratliff/Walter Herrmann

now they got a big time scorer TMAC they have been looking for,and ENOUGH shooters and decent bench to make a push for eastern champion

T-Mac for Billups and Rip straight up is fair enough. I think Alston would end up staying. As for Mutombo i doubt he resigns in Houston if T-Mac is traded.

I like the idea of having a high efficient back court who rarely makes mistakes.
Together they both average 42% from downtown and fit the description of Adelman offense.

Morey should not over value T-Mac too much.

Rockets might take on a extra year in Billups but seriously who out there will be a upgrade to him by 2010 anyways?

    How about NOBODY !!

All the best point guards are locked up and the only way to upgrade that position is to make a trade. They are locked up beyond 2010.

As for the Billups and Hamilton back court both All-Stars before, both shoot lights out Hamilton 44% from downtown and Billups 40% from downtown.

Both these players are pefect fit pieces in Adelman offensive mind set.
Execution and high offensive IQ basketball that is very efficient.

Both are cutters and can shoot and play off the ball. Billups is up-tempo and can shoot at high volumes and Hamilton can really play in a half court/up-tempo system that is designed for him to shoot off mid range screens and long range jumpers with a few back foor baskets. Billups can play alot of back door too and both can finish around the rim more consistantly. The thing about the 2 being in Detroit is they made absolutely no errors on the court together. Both are very efficient players and can score the basketball. They made little errors which made them a good combo back court.

The thing with Dumars is they have been together in Detroit now with Prince and Sheed for a while and have coasted in ball games they could have easily won and could have been to the finals more than once. Dumars believes a core shake up is needed and at one time was after T-Mac before he even came to Houston.

Dumars is limited to his statement though the Rockets only need Billups and Hamilton because Sheed and Prince are useless. Battier last season proved to be the better defensive player over Prince. Even the Detroit team knows it's time to move on except for Prince.

As for Yao with the back court duo, i think he will elevate his game more. Now we have running transition pieces and Alston moved to the bench who is a high assist to low turnover point guard and braught in some very high velocity shooters (Brent Barry), Yao's game can be toned down as a passer more so then a scorer when absolutely needed, no need to constantly pound the ball like Van Gundy NYK style. In the High-Post has great court vision and can find that Detroit duo with alot of back door passes and set screens for Billups and Hamilton jumpers at either end out high. The less he is on the court the less turnovers the team will have is what im trying to get at.

Yao is very turnover prone, he can score, defend inside, rebound, pass(maybe) the thing is running the floor and turnovers the longer he is on the court the more tunovers he commits. He is the leagues best center, but his game has flaws. Just like Shaq who could not hit a free throw, Yao is turnover prone by putting the ball down low and gets it stripped too much which keeps the other team within striking distance anyways.

With Scola getting most his points on put backs and hustle playes and running the court really takes alot of pressure off Yao Down-Low (when it matters) not allowing any double team to come over and with Battier stretching the defense apart by camping in the corner for efficient 3 point shooting the game will really be 4 on 4 straight up using most of the court instead of 3on4 or 4on5 depending if Hayes is on the floor and Mutombo and Alston as well.

Yao in the High-Post creates more attacking room and back-door movement below the basket because he is no longer clogging the paint and forcing players to shoot over the top of the other teams defense from the outside.

Between Billups and Hamilton and Yao's reduced minutes is still impacting the game alot and the margin of errors like turnovers or injuries is very slim now.

When Yao steps away the game can go balls to the walls now with the sharp shooting and running transition pieces going from 30mph to 100mph at full force.

With Scola and Landry and (maybe) Dorsey (Ray Lewis with a basketball) they will be at full throttle again with Alston leading the break and playing good efficient freestyle basketball keeping the turnoves down while Billups and Hamilton get a breather with Yao, then Barry and Greene will be on the wings lighting it up with Carluis Scolandry and Joey Dorsey finishing the breaks and switching any screens and picks on defense to force any turnovers to disrupt any offensive game plan of the other team. Remember transition starts by playing great defense not by trading baskets. I dont like the run and gun concept absolutely no defense is played at all.

Keeping Yao fresh to close games if needed and for the playoffs is key and teamed with Billups and Hamilton it can be done.

So what point guard is a upgrade to Billups after 2010 assuming he comes off the books at 2010 anyways?

^ billups is NOT an uptempo player. watch how he directs the pistons offense. they're a methodical half-court player. billups is not that speedy/quick. his offense are either pick and roll or post up. i think you need to watch more pistons basketball.

however, rip fits this offense to a T. he can play the peja role.

I'd never trade a future HOF for 2 all-stars. Increase the trade to 2 AS + Max, Stucky or a future #1 and it would probably be worth it, but unless they up the ante - forget it.

Memphis had the deepest team in the league a couple of yeas ago and look what that got them - their still rebuilding! Dallas had the deepest team the last two years in a row and we see where they are - Depth is not the answer, although it doesn't hurt, but it seems like since 2000 teams need three superstars.

I don't think an aged Chauncy & Rip are our answer.

I'd love to make a "splash" move this offseason, but I don't think this is the answer.

That future hall of famer thingy is over rated. T-Mac holds value but not that much some believe he has no value left.

Lakers had 4 future hall of famers and got beat by a team that probably has no hall of famers. The hall of famer thingy is over rated.

As for T-Mac he is aged too so that makes the trade completely mute and Dumars said its no fire sale.

Billups was up-tempo when Ben Wallace was in his prime when he was blocking shots and forcing Billups in a up-tempo mode? This was before they started coasting.

None, I don't want to trade T-Mac. He's less injury prone than Yao but Yao is too valuable to give up. Keep T-Mac and Yao.

I'm with TwinTowers1986 now that I think about it, two special players beat two aging all-stars every day of the week. Something tells me that our GM would shut this idea down.
