Kaman makes the most sense. He's proven and he won't break the bank. Hibbert would be worth throwing big money at but Indiana won't let him walk, McGee isn't worth big money even if Denver were to let him walk. I'll take Kaman. Asik is too big a ? Sign Kaman and have Camby back him up. If we don't trade our 2 picks then use them on the best C on the board.
Agreed. The truth is that you basically have to draft centers, or overpay average ones on the open market. It's very rare to hit it big with a Gortat on a value contract. So knowing this ... it makes more sense than ever to take a couple of shots at a center in the draft. Hell, even late 1st and 2nd round center picks have paid big dividends. Morey needs to keep aquiring picks in this year's draft, and then use a couple on center prospects. We need to be in full rebuild mode. We need to add length in this draft. Grabbing a Leonard and/or Henson late lotto or mid-round could really pay off a couple of years from now. And that's how we need to be looking at things. it's a healthy way to look at things. This instint gratification mindset is killing us and keeping us average. The path forward on bigs is clear: don't overpay on the market; draft and develop your own.
IMHO the best move would be to trade for Detroit's C, Greg Monroe. Melo, Leonard are all nice but we really need to package our assets for an upgrade, and I think Monroe is someone who has a very nice chance of becoming one of the best big men in the future. Also, I think he's very obtainable for a package of Lowry+Dalembert+picks mainly because this draft is full of bigmen but they have no pg.
Fab is sort of like McGee, though not quite as good. He's in trouble with a bad or mediocre team, much better option for a well-established team with go-to players. He wouldn't be expected to do much, simply play defense, rebound, and provide a little bit offense, possibly be regulated to the bench in a proper manner and still contribute meaningful minutes. He's perfect for the Heat, OKC, the Spurs, the Knicks, or Celtics. Teams that have an identity, great stars, and need better role players. With a lesser team, like the Rockets, the Bucks, or the Cavs, he's going to have to be a quality starting center out of the gates, or great contributor in some fashions, because all three teams are in desperate need in several different areas, along with center.
I think alot of fans in Detroit, along with management are starting to like Monroe, because he's a hustler and good player. He also has loads of potential, and he's a big. I doubt Detroit trades him for Houston's after-thought players in a typical Morey offer. I'm almost sure, you have throw in Martin or Parsons into the deal with future picks added. Honestly, he's worth more than any individual player on our team. People always wonder why Houston deals never happen (straight up, anyway), because . .. our players are not good enough. They are actually not that far from a playoff contention, given the draft and free agency.
I'm telling you, we probably look down on Kevin Martin on this site, after what happened, this year and throw him in every trade deal. Kevin Martin will be a very deadly player on a contending teams, such as the Celtics, the Bulls, the Mavs, or the Clippers. He's perfect as 2nd to 4th go-to scorer. His percentages are really going to shoot up on a team, where he isn't the primary concern for a defense. Could you imagine adding him with a team that has Nowitzki-Deron Williams in the starting lineup? Imagine him going to Boston and taking over for Ray Allen. Pierce-Martin-Rondo is a fantastic backcourt. Same with Chicago, if Rose can come back. He fits with alot of other teams, as well. Because, he's a great complimentary piece and he'll actually have a chance to play some competitive basketball.
I'd pay ~$14 mil for Mcgee simply for the comic relief he would provide. But seriously, IMO in the right environment and the right coaches and veteran players surrounding him Mcgee could take the next step and become a legit Center. He has all the physical tools necessary, the only area he still needs to develop is between his ears. I think he is worth the risk of a big contract.
Detroit is not moving Monroe coming off the second year of a rookie contract and looking like a real player. Not unless you are going to throw Anthony Davis or some other young talent that would be as good or better. You just can't go out and trade for anybody. You have to look at the team you are trading with and what they are trying to accomplish. Detroit is in the middle of a rebuild. They want to ditch bad contracts and get more young and talented. And you are suggesting they take on two middle-aged players with contracts at the expense of developing their young point guard and trading away the only core young big they have. Makes no sense. Detroit says no.
We need athletic bigs and McGee is worth the risk, McHale teaches him some post moves and jumphook and its all good
McGee will not get offered 14 mill a year from any team… those types of contracts under the new CBA will only be offered to LeBron type guys.. Mcgee is not a franchise player.. he is gonna be good but unless he starts dropping 25 and 12 a night he won't be getting that kind of money from anyone.. you will see contracts start to go down a lot over the next few years.. whoever signs McGee for 14 mill a year will be the next Charlotte Bobcats because you won't be able to fill out your roster with anything but crap.. i'd offer him 4 years 30 mill.. somewhere around 7.5 mill a season.. if he said no to that then see ya..
i completely agree... i still think hes a 13mill jump shooter... fact is he isnt interested around here and his welcome has worn off and its time for a split for both parties... i would trade him to any contender for anything resembling value just to move one and open room for mcgee... because i agree... yea sure he would sometimes give us some comic relief... but he would also make us all jump out of our seats emphatically yelling BLOOOCKKKED.... to think only lebron like players will only make 14 a yr is ridiculous... i dont care how strong the new cba is teams will overpay for talent or to keep players they dont wanna miss out on... calculated risks will continue to be made by franchises... you offer mcgee 7.5mill, milwaukee turns around and offers him 10, cleveland offers him 12, and denver would still might re-sign him... believe it or not he will catch a big payday... prolly not 14... but i could easily see anywhere from 10-13...
Why is Dwight a pipedream? He just had back surgery and Orlando really has no business keeping him for nothing after the year is up. We are also one of the few (VERY few) teams willing and capable of pulling off a trade for Dwight.
hypothetical question... would you rather: A) sign mcgee to 13mill, camby 5mill as backup B) sign asik to 8mill, camby 5mill as backup C) kaman to 9mill, camby 5mill as backup asik seems smartest business wise but leaves alot to be desired offensively... kaman would be nice offensive and defensive pairing with camby and would be very nice and something i wouldnt disapprove but they arent getting any younger... mcgee is defensively stout, decent on offense and camby could help him mature...
oh its possible...i have wished and trade scenarioed the hell out of a potential dwight trade... i want it like crazy and realize its possible because we do have the assets... i said besides dwight because everyone will flood the thread with dwight scenarios... and i wanted everyones opinion on mcgee and other centers they would rather have... i know everyones #1 center would be dwight... but i was moreintrigued on what people thought of the other centers that are more easily attainable...
I'll throw the dice on Fab...or on someone along those lines... hopefully, with a pick in the 20s we trade someone for... McGee, Asik, Kamen... too much money with questionable return....
trade a player to land a 20-something pick to draft melo(a defensive minded prospect with no offensive) and hope he turns into.. asik? a defensive specialist with no offense... asik - 7/8mill kaman - 8/9mill mcgee - ?? 10-13mill?? hell dalembert got 7 mill... centers are expensive, once you get past that you realize its not paying to much but the average... so draft a player pay 1/2mill for a couple years and hope he develops, when he finally does hes up for a contract worth about 7/8mill at least... so draft a player so we suck in middle and wait 3 years to fork over the money we should this year?
Any team that pays McGee 14 million will be in the lottery for years to come.. He hasn't done anything to get that much money. he has shown flashes of greatness but nothing consistent enough to get paid that.. and yes the new CBA will completely change contracts.. that was the entire point of it.. case in point is dallas, They didn't wanna pay max dollars to chandler because it would put them way over the cap and they would have to pay the tax and it would diminish them getting anyone for the next couple of season.. face it, Big contracts 14-20 mill a season will only go to Lebron, d-wade, Melo, Dirk type players.. McGee won't get over 10.. if even that..
mcgee will still get paid... i know the new cba limits it alot... hence look at the knicks... theyre f#ckeeeedddddddddddd... still doesnt mean you wouldnt pay a potential all star center 14mill... thats about 1/5 of the salary cap... yes the key-word there was potential... but the league is driven by potential, hence tankers wanting higher potential players....
I am not too enamored with a starting center until the Rockets get their teams star or young talent first. Right now they need to concentrate on getting that star potential player first and then their center of the future they can draft.
