    I don't think he's a bad player, if you think that's what I'm implying. I'm just stating that his trade value is almost nil because there aren't many in the league that really want him, and free agency bore this out when teams could have signed him for cheap without giving up anything.

    on paper Maggette trade makes sense, but he doesn't addr our problem.

    Looking at yesterday's game. Tmac is still the vocal pt and player maker for us.

    Now, does AD want to play it this way or having tmac play the 3?

    having Maggette would further expose our pg issue, as the clippers would want a pg from us. they will take either alston or MJ. not sure if MJ still got some trade-kicker in his contract or not.

    Gross. That'd be terrible. We'd have Battier, Scola, Hayes, and then Varejao flopping all over the place trying to take charges.

    No thanks. No thanks.

    I think we paid MJ's trade kicker when we traded JHo for him. Not sure if kickers like these are a one-time thing or it applies for the duration of the contract though.

    Maggette WILL address our problems. Specifically the lack of a consistent 3rd scorer who can create for himself and perform consistently. The only knock on him is his tendency to get injured. But given the aggressive nature of his game, that's a tradeoff worth risking IMO.

    Losing MJ doesn't really hurt us, given how bad he's been playing so far. To say that losing him hurts our pg problem is false, as Adelman uses him almost exclusively as a 2-guard who provides instant offense. Rafe and Francis can split the minutes at the point. You have Head as insurance anyhow.

    And about Bonzi, what's there to be concerned with if we trade him? We're getting back Maggette in return, who's younger, more consistent, has a better jumper, and is less of a headcase.

    Let me say it outright. If we get Corey Maggette, we WILL be a championship contender. The guy is almost a career 20ppg scorer who can rebound and play decent D. Borderline all-star. Bonzi and James for Maggette. I'd do it in a heartbeat if I were Daryl Morey.

    I have wanted Maggette to become a Rocket for years. I think we have some tradeable assets, but the ones I want to go, aren't. Actually, Rafer would be O.K. coming off the bench getting, say, ten minutes a game.

    just having a little fun:

    Bonzi+MJ for Maggette
    Battier+Rafer for AK47
    TMac+Novak+Landry+2 Future 1sts for Kobe+cash

    1 - Kobe || ABrooks
    2 - Maggette || Francis
    3 - AK47 || Snyder
    4 - Chuck || Scola
    5 - Yao || Deke

    that would be an interesting team.

    Wish I had more time to write on some of the others, but my two cents on Battier...

    Just about every contending team would be able to use him, but slower-paced, defensive teams/efficient offensive teams (JVG's Rockets) would really want him. That's also the problem with dealing with contending teams... they generally pick up talent off struggling teams for future considerations. The Rockets need "now" considerations as well.

    Los Angeles and San Antonio would probably love to have him but I don't see them as trade partners. Detroit is his home. Utah would probably love him, but I think the 'trade Kirilenko' ship has sailed. New York could desperately use a high IQ player and I wonder how much Dolan is willing to let Isiah make trades right now. Also, what is the value of David Lee?

    Battier for Lee and Scola+more going in an Artest deal? OK, I'm reaching (and I LOVE Scola).

    Atlanta would be my dark horse because they badly need to make the playoffs, sorely need a veteran presence and any kind of point guard. Battier + Rafer may get you somewhere.

    SB is probably better on a JVG team, but this is an Adelman team. Has Shane's ship sailed in Houston? If so, and I hope not, then:

    He would be perfect in NYK EXCEPT they have lesser versions with Jeffries/Collins/Bachman+Q. And, if David Lee came this way then where do the rest of the dollars come from to make the deal pass muster?

    Scola + for a guy who can opt out this summer and bring nada back?

    Atlanta can't make trades where $s differ due to owners-in-court mess. Whom would you see coming back if a deal were doable?

    Shane to Chicago as a 4, with Rafer, for Heinrich makes more and more sense. At least to me (but with Paxson triggerless it is moot).

    It'll be interesting to see who or what gets moved or moving effective 12/15.

    Battier has value. He makes about 6.4 mil.
    Head has some value. He makes about 1.1 mil.

    The contracts don't escalate egregiously.

    Then our short contracts -

    We have Bonzi on a 1 year deal at 2.3 mil.
    Francis 1 year at 2.34 mil.
    Deke is 1 year 1.2 mil.
    Hayes 1 year 1.75 mil

    Snyder has 2 years.

    Then we have guys with bad contracts - excess of their value - Alston and James are bad now :

    Alston - 4.55
    James - 5.6

    and they get worse. Pretty hard to move them.
    ........................................

    IF things look really bleak later, we could move Tmac. He makes the most money, with a lot more still to come. He has 19 now, with 21 and 23 coming.
    IF he can't win, maybe we pick up another, cheaper, all-around player. We'd have to give up Tmac's talent, but we'd have money for 2 more guys. That is probably more of an issue for next year, unless some special deal shakes out.

    Kirilenko, Odom, and Bibby all are not earning their money. All make about 13 mil. All those teams might want to trade those guys, to exit the contract. You might add Joe Johnson to that list.

    There may also be malcontents or bad actors who get themselves traded for less value back.

    maybe now that the heat have been on such a skid, we can trick them into doing that alston-haslem deal everyone was speculating about over the summer.

    I think about PG, Damon Stoudamire is obtainable. Stoudamire gets 1 year left in his contract after this season. Since the Grizzilies are going nowhere and they have 3 young guards, they may want to have more playing time for their young guards. Snyder's expiry contract plus Head maybe enough to pry Stoudamire to the Rockets. Damon Stoudamire wanted to come to Houston when he was a free agent.

    With Damon Stoudamire, the Rockets get good shooting, passing, and veteran experience, but he's a weak link in defense.

    IF we hadn't traded away Rudy Gay, we wouldn't have to look for such a player.

    No point in that deal. Addle-brain would just bench him in favor of his golden boy Rafer.

    I hope the Rockets don't trade Scola. The guy is a winner. Does all the small things. He should get a lot better, the more experience he gets.
