now that will make me cry. battier does NOT deserve MLE money. it's ridiculous. the greatest thing he could do to the rockets is to go in a trade for a star.
He'll settle for whatever he'll get. I don't think any team would offer him MLE. But I'm no expert, so we'll see.
the guy graduated from duke and he is very smart. he should know where his game ranks among the players right now, which is at the bottom. $3 mil is pushing it.
Doubt is especially when a guy like prince will be in that same range and he's nowhere close to prince. He's a 3m per backup, thats it. He's a dime a dozen bench player playing 20 mins a night. The lakers got barnes foor less than that a he's done everything they can get from from shane. Stop dreaming
I'd bet dollars to doughnuts that the Rockets will have to bid against the Celtics to keep Battier. I wouldn't be surprised if it got up to the MLE for at least 3 years.
Posey Korver Mike Miller Ariza Reddick Dudley Battier will get the MLE, it's just the number of years that is in question.
When posey signed his deal, he was fresh off 2 rings. Mike miller is a versitile shooter, ariza has youth on his side as do reddick and dudley. Korver is lights out shooter. Battier to me is a good 20 minute guy off the bench and the so called contenders could have traded for him vs signing those guys for less. I would mind him back for 3m and coming off the bench behind someone really good or with a high ceiling. As a starter, he's not going to do it for a contending team.
It will be a huge failure on the part of Rockets management if they give him more than $3 million per year. He's already one of the worst starters in the league and only has downside left.
No we don't. Nobody does. Not unless the new CBA carries over the MLE, which is certainly no given. If I were a betting man, I'd say that the "Mid-Level Exception" as we know it will no longer exist next season. Oh, yeah . . . and the Rockets wouldn't get the MLE unless they were over the cap (i.e., they choose to re-sign Yao). And they don't need to use the MLE on Battier anyway. They would have his Bird rights and could exceed the salary cap to re-sign him to any amount. Assuming that Bird rights carry over under the new CBA.
OR...he just wanted to go to the lakers after he found out yao was out for the season and needed an excuse to not make it look like he was defecting to the enemy because if u cant beat em join em
Here is the smartest piece of advice EVER, trade all of our expirings regardless as opposed to losing them for nothing. Same principle involved with melo and all those higher profile players but why not for all the battiers and JJ's as well. If Morey decides not to offer a contract to Yao, JJ, Chuck or Battier trade them and at least get a superstar in some package, some draft picks or projects to work with.
Battier needs to be signed to a 3 year contract,at the MLE rate. No more than that IMO. If we can get Iggy in a trade which includes him, that's all right with me.
