Yeah, that and the floats etc. That's why I wanted to go there as a kid. 1970's summer nights with the grandparents in small town Texas for ice cream. No Whataburger could do that.
I personally love DQ. Especially their promotions. For example, their new Flamethrower burger isn't bad at all. Plus, if you go down to Angleton, they even let you shotput little gay people onto a target. The winner gets a free sundae.
Culvers may have "healthier" looking burgers, but to me, they're tasteless. The fries are too salty. The fish tastes "fishy." I voted "other." I think the real fast food in Texas is BBQ. You can find it everywhere, and it is usually good, or else DAMN good. Then there are the great places. We are blessed with great BBQ. The rest are posers. If I had to pick a traditional fast food place, though, it would be DQ. They have been in small town Texas for decades. My all-time favorite place, however, was the Ranger Drive-in, in Southeast Houston. Absolutely killer food. You name it, and they did it better than anyone else. Drive up in your '56 Chevy and the girls brought the goods on a tray. Second would be Princes. Same great service and good food.
Considering they're butter burgers I don't know how they look healthier. I'm with you on the fries, those salty crinkle cut ones just don't cut it, but I think their burgers and the Walleye are pretty good. I would put Culvers up there with Whataburger and In & Out for good fast food burgers. Then again maybe the Culvers in Texas aren't as good as the ones in Upper Midwest and its possible growth has diminished the quality. I remember the first time I had Culvers about 8 years ago in Superior, Wisconsin and I was thinking that it was a pretty good fast food burger. Even my girlfriend at the time who is a food snob thought it was pretty good and after having a couple of bites of my burger got one of her own. [edit]I still would take Whataburger over Culvers but Houston nostalgia might be influencing that.[/edit]
Has anyone seen that DQ commercial where they pronounce the word pecan like peeecan? Defining Texas fast food my ass.
Defining things based on tv commercials is kind of silly. The reality of 1976 downtown Wills Point, Texas is a better truth.
Anybody know the guy who does the Whataburger commercials? "Now thats what you call, getting "out Whataburger'ed."
Wow, Whataburger is good, but it is soooo overrated. Sonic is much better. And fast-food in California is much, much better
Whataburger is gross in my opinion.. worst burgers ever. Their chicken strips with gravy is pretty good however..
Yeah I agree. Sonic is better than Whataburger. Plus California's Carl's Jr. and In-N-Out >>>>>>>>>>>> Whataburger
As a native Texan and a fan of Whataburger, I must say... .... California's In-n-out burger > Whataburger
Yeah, I really only like their chicken Yeah, In-N-Out is great and and Bacon Western Cheeseburger at Carl's Jr. is much better than anything Whataburger has
