I think deafness is being sold short (long?). I can see deafness as being very isolating, because you can't really talk to people. Without technology, I think this might be worse. But, with the proliferation of easy written communications, I think this is mitigated quite a bit.

Apologies to Lady Di for participating.

Yeah, that's what sucks about being deaf. You wouldn't be able to communicate with your friends and family anymore unless they all learn sign language. And learning a new language sucks.

You could text and email all the time, but that would suck too.

Yea I'm totally isolated from my friends and family, hell from my hearing husband too!

    Dumb uneducated people, I swear.

Yes, it is a bit harder for me to communicate with people but IT'S NOT IMPOSSIBLE. It takes TWO people to work together to communicate, NOT just the deaf person. How the **** can two people that speak two different languages communicate? Same concept!

You can visualize music by looking at notes. You can look at SPL meters to detect sounds, and what direction they're coming from. Subwoofers can be felt.

But, seeing beautiful things like outer space, or the Grand Canyon, or a woman are irreplaceable.

Great point. I wouldn't prefer to have either but being either blind or deaf is not some sort of curse to an unfulfilled and isolated life.

That's not really what I meant. But, I'm not going to argue with you about because obviously it's more personal to you than it is to me. Meant no offense.

If I had to lose one of my five senses, it would be the sense of hearing.

    Why?

Because 95% of what people say is bull**** anyways

    'Rep it

Ok, I apologize for the dumb and uneducated comment but some comments offended me. I do not take pity very well. Being deaf isn't a curse. I just simply cannot hear, period. I'm functioning fine in other areas. I know that there are a lot of deaf people who have language development skills but don't assume that ALL of them are same. Every one is different.

I'm uneducated when it comes to blindness or any other "disability" but I try to learn about them before making assumptions.
