Hell i can name at least a couple of artists that i like from all these eras. But I have to say the one thing I hate is the new mellenium's music. My era has killed rock, killed rap, and i never liked pop neways so they can kill that. Imo 90's rock is the best hands down. Nirvana, Alice in Chains, RHCP, STP. It just Alt rock's golden age.

born in the 80's, grew up in the 90's... but... to me the best decade of music.. which I measure by creativity, innovation, passion/power , impact and quality... relative to their time..

the 60's would have to be it.. then the 70's.. 50's third.. and I'd have to give the edge to the 80's over the 90's.. simply because it was a more complete decade of good music.. as opposed to the 90's half decade run..

Agreed. I ended up picking the 80's for the poll because I could add the Pixies to that decade.

If you disregard the hair metal bands and dwell a little further in, you'll find some good stuff came out in the 80s.

I like Metallica, but what else?

Edit: Just saw your list. It's pretty obvious we have different taste in music.

But we can agree that Metallica is sick. The new single, not so much.

I'm going to with the 80s for a simple reason that's due to my tastes at the moment:

If your impression of the '80's is "hair bands" (and most of you don't even know what a hair band is), then you're really missing out on one hell of a decade of music.

I voted '70's because bands like Zeppelin, The Who, and Black Sabbath were at the height of their powers, while bands like Priest, Maiden, and Van Halen were coming onto the scene there towards the end. Aerosmith, anyone? Def Leppard? Motorhead?

But the '80's f***ing killed: peaking Priest and Maiden, the LA metal scene with Ozzy, Motley Crue and Quiet Riot, speed metal (Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, and Anthrax), and Guns 'n Roses (<--NOT a 90's band. Sorry.).

Not to mention Duran Duran, The Cure, The Smiths, the rest of the new wave scene, and rap pioneers in Run DMC, NWA, Public Enemy.

And I haven't even scratched the surface with what I've mentioned here.

The '80's saw music innovation in more genres that hasn't been around for 20+ years.

You kids really have no idea. You need to turn off Mtv and get educated.

80's - for several reasons... while you had bands like Metallica and MegaDeath in the background, Van Halen and Bon Jovi in the pop scene along with Madonna, MJ and Janet.... rap went main stream, and was actually still decent... once Hammer and Vanilla hit it was over. The few exceptions are Pac and Biggie, maybe even Eminem after 1989.

    RUN-DMC
    LL Cool J
    Whodini
    Beastie Boys
    P.E.
    KRS-ONE
    Rakim
    NWA
    Salt 'n' Pepa

The 80's also had several good R&B acts, country hits, etc. And dance, house, techno, industrial, modern rock, punk, new wave, early alternative, all were budding if not finally getting noticed.

It was a decade of music genre explosion.
