Nah.. I had to work that night, so I didn't even get to watch them on TV, but then I don't care much about music awards anyway. It was a wild party afterwards, though. Downtown was rocking until 6am (bars closed at 4). A friend of mine worked security and ended up standing inches away from (and even talking a bit with) Shaggy, Alanis Morisette, members of BNL, Mike Bullard, Nelly, Sele & Pelletier, etc.. Apparantly, Shaggy rented out the Cotton Club (strip club) on Friday night for a private party/viewing. He arrived there with an entourage of eight(!) bodyguards - all of them big, mean-looking black dudes. All of the stars that were interviewed said it was the best Junos ever and that they'd definitely want to see it back in St. John's again sometime. PS: Screech-ins are a money-making scheme for tourists. No self-respecting Newfoundlander would ever have anything to do with one. People actually pay $10-$15 to kiss a smelly fish and act like a fool? Mainlanders are crazy...
I'm with Nomar on this. (well, for the most part. I'm not into the pop/Brittney Spears stuff) While none of these bands are my all time favorites or anything, it's always amazing to me how eager people are to bash 'current' music. It was the same thing in the early 90's, when I used to listen to Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Stone Temple Pilots, etc. I used to listen to people bash that stuff too, and for much the same reasons. Maybe some of us forget, but these guys got their music played continuously on the radio as well. I don't know why anyone would want to listen to that much 'top 40 radio' anyway. No sh*t it's going to be repeating the same old stuff. That's what radio generally is. A friend of mine (who I believe is getting close to hitting 40) loves to bash early 90s music, particularly Nirvana. Because he says it was too 'overhyped' for their talent. And yet, on his mix CDs now I *swear* I hear an NSync song or two with a little Brittney Spears and Destiny's Child. I guess when you get old, the bitterness levels rise dramatically.
