They ripped it off of Alice in Chains (who was a GREAT band that broke up much too soon :(). I think they even mentioned it in an interview once.

Contrary to what the sig says (which will FINALLY change in 5 more days), Creed absolutely sucks. Limp Bizkit ain't much better. Fortunately, I got out of listening to that crap before Nickelback and some of these other joke bands got airplay.

Drew - You should have put Blink 182 on this list. They should get an award for best band AT ONE TIME that now absolutely sucks!

Cheshire Cat and Dude Ranch are awesome CDs, the rest of their CDs are not.

Staind sucks ass. How many times do we have to hear "Its been awhile" ??? That would classify as an "other" BigM

"Its been awhile......since I wrote something that wasnt so fuc%ing depressing"

"Its been awhile......since I thought that monotone was actually singing."

"Its been awhile......since I learned how to read a book instead of whining."

Not sure if they can be considered popular yet, but as someone else mentioned, System of a Down kicks total ass.

Other than them, I just don't really listen to any popular music. I guess Drowning Pool has some okay stuff, but I don't own any of their CDs.

Radiohead, whether we like it or not, is pure radio pop music. Even weird ass KID A is prog pop.

How about Red Hot Chili Peppers? They don't suck.

Um...No Doubt has really fallen off, but Bathwater and Simple Kind of Life were great songs. If they get back to rock, I'll buy their next album. Hey Baby fills me with murderous thoughts.

Starsailor, good band.

Coldplay, though Yellow got quite annoying. Excellent album though (Parachutes I mean).

The Strokes, White Stripes. nuff said.

Man i miss mid nineties radio, thats when there was good ****. Nirvana, Radiohead, Ben Folds Five, No Doubt, those were the ****ing days.

Has anybody ever heard of the Assmunch Salad Tosser Theory? If you can look past the name they're a great band. Totally off subject, sorry.

I agree with most of what Ninja said.

The Peppers are my favorite band. New album soon!!!!

No Doubt is one of my favs, but I'm not really drawn in to their new stuff.

I like Incubus and they really don't sound cheesy likke other current rock outfits.

I also agree that Parachutes by Coldplay was a great album.

System of a Down isn't bad either and I'm really not into that hard stuff, but they make it a little melodious.

francis 4 prez- The people that buy creed CDs are the same ones who listen to j-blo and other cheesy $#it.

I think System Down could be counted as popular. Didn't their album reach #1?

The Strokes are also a really good band. I like the White Stripes, but I think they're hugely overrated. But neither of those bands are really THAT popular.

Ninja hit the nail on the head in saying that Radiohead and Coldplay are both great bands (once again, ignore the sig..will explain later).

The stuff I like now is definitely not what is considered to be "popular", but that is okay by me. I went through my CDs and counted the following artists as favorites of mine...my criteria was that I had to have at least 3 CDs by them:

Aphex Twin
Beach Boys (great old-school)
Bee Gees (ditto)
Beatles (classic)
Bjork
Chemical Brothers
Cocteau Twins
John Coltrane
Miles Davis
Dead Can Dance
Delerium/Front Line Assembly (Bill Leeb)
Enigma
Everclear
Faithless
Fatboy Slim
Peter Gabriel
Goo Goo Dolls:eek:
Joy Division
Kraftwerk
Massive Attack
Sarah McLachlan
Meat Loaf
Moby
New Order
Nine Inch Nails
The Orb
Orbital
Elvis Presley (classic)
Prodigy
Radiohead
Smashing Pumpkins (one of the greatest bands. Ever)
Tool
Underworld

Plus many more in which I only own 2 CDs or less..

I never really liked Coldplay. With the exception of maybe three songs on the album I thought it all sound like pretty generic British rock.

Man you really like electronic music. I have quite a few techno CDs, but the only two I can say that I like as a complete whole are Dig Your Own Hole and Surrender. I'm just not that big of a fan of that 100% electronic music. The Chemical Brothers are a huge step ahead of the rest in my opinion, though their most recent album is kind of a disappointment. Basement Jaxx are probably the next best thing.

The thing about Creed is not only does its music suck big ones (and it does), but those Messianic-Christ-on-the-cross B.S. poses are just irritating as hell. Those faux-Christian rock lyrics....blarf!

OK, confession: I kinda like Linkin Park. But I think it's a "7-years-shy-of-middle-age-crisis" thing. And that group is also getting so much airplay that burnout is inevitable.

I love bull**** threads like these.

b****ing and moaning about bands that somehow, even though they seem to "suck serious ass", are among the most popular bands in the modern era of music.

Creed is the only band in the history of Rock and Roll to record four #1 ranked singles on their debut CD.

I am a huge Creed fan, and I don't mind Godsmack or Limp Bizkit. What I do hate with a passion is people who dislike bands BECAUSE they are widely popular and BECAUSE many people like them. For some reason its considered to be a slight if you like the same music as someone outside of your demographic. Yeah, teeny-boppers like Britney Spears... well I ****ing like Britney Spears as well! Does that make me a bad person? Do I feel like less of a man? No... My self confidence and gender identity come from something other than what bands I like.

To take a line from my boy Manny Ramirez, "Radiohead and other elitist bands suck. Give me Kid Rock and Creed any day of the week, baby!"

Why people like Radiohead is beyond me. That band truly does suck serious ass. "Creep" is probably the worst song I have ever heard in my life.

Ok, I'm done. CREED RULES!!!!!

P.S. - My favorite band is DMB, and my favorite song is "Space Oddity", so don't give me any **** about my musical taste ****ers.

Huh? So scold those that make fun of other people's taste in music, then you turn around and do it yourself?

I used to like a lot of those popular bands, but for several reasons, as I got older, I stopped listening to it. One reason was alot of those popular bands only put out at most three singles. I would buy the album because of the songs being played on the radio only to find out the rest of the ablums sucked and was not nearly the same quality as the singles. This got frustrating after a while. Its almost like a lot of those bands concentrate on making a single to get the album sold and just throw in a bunch of filler around it.

Another reason is, lets face it, popular music is pretty safe. A lot of it sounds the same, because record labels knows what type of band has sold in the past, so they try and promote similar bands. It ends up just being a bunch of faceless bands that all sound alike. In the early 90's it wasn't like this, because of so much of it was new, with Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Smashing Pumpkins, Nirvana. Those were good, talented, original bands. I can't think of any other current groups who even compare to those.

Third, I just didn't realize there was a lot of other music out there. I thought radio music was pretty much all there was. Finally when I got fed up, I started looking for other less popular music and found out it was a lot more creative and interesting than what was on the radio. But unlike many people, I don't make fun of anyone's taste in music.

That's like people judging your beloved Creed based on their biggest (shiddy) hits, such as Higher (shiddy), and My Sacrifice (shiddy.) Buy a Radiohead album, then be the judge of their music. And yes, I have (had, now they're coasters) two Creed albums, the first and second ones, which sucked huge ass. Prison was bearable, but Human Clay made me want to stick lit matches into my ears.

Creed appeals to everybody, thats why they're so fuccckin popular, not because they're great. Motherfusking Slayer, Cannibal Corpse, Cradle of Filth, Morbid Angel...all that shet would be just as popular as Reverend Stapp if they preached in their music. It's all the same thing anyway, except Creed has ministers' wives and their 14 year old girls at their shows.

And, no bollocks about fxcking Creed not being a Christian band. Anybody with a quarter of a brain knows that they claim non-denomination because they know if they were an outright Christian band they wouldn't sell that many records.

In 20 years, Creed will be viewed upon as a cheesy ballad band, in the same ilk as Poison or Loverboy. In 20 years, Radiohead will be viewed as one of, if not the greatest band in the 90s.

At least listen to more than one song before you judge a band.
